Ocean Pelagic, What is it?The Ocean Pelagic biome is composed of
mainly of everything, but the floor itself, of the ocean sometimes referred to as the open ocean zone.
The Ocean Pelagic area, includes those waters further from the land, basically the open ocean. It’s kind of hard to describe the temperature, because there are many kinds of currents that are mixing warm and cold currents. The flowers in the Pelagic Area include surface seaweed.
Primary ConsumersPrimary Consumers are the first
to eat the primary producers.Primary consumers here in the
Pelagic area are: Crustaceans, Larvae, Chordates.
Crustaceans are arthropods, which means that they are invertebrate animals that have an exoskeleton.
Larvae is like the early form of an animal before if performs metamorphosis.
Chordates include sea squirts, lancelets.
Primary Producers Primary Producers that live in the
ocean pelagic zone are Diatoms and Dinoflagellates
Diatoms are the go to food resource for marine and freshwater microorganisms and animal larva.
Most of the Dinoflagellates are plankton
In freshwater and marine ecosystems; it is estimated that 20% to 25% of all organic carbon fixation on the planet is carried out by diatoms (Waggoner, Diatoms).
Carbon Fixation is transformation of carbon dioxide and water into sugars, using light energy (Waggoner, Diatoms).

Human Impact of/on Ocean Pelagic (Trash and Oil Spill) The way that this massive junk island
was created is from all of the trash that we carelessly deposit into the ocean (Mone, Trash); it is mainly composed of plastics, because plastics are one of the hardest things to actually get rid of. A biodegradable cardboard box is a lot easier to breakdown than a plastic 2 liter bottle. Cleaning it up would cost a lot of money. Also another recent event is the oil spill off of the gulf coast
This most recent oil spill has had a vast negative impact on the organisms of the ocean, as for the most of them are contaminated with oil, and the oil spill has had an adverse affect on humans because, some people make a living off of fishing, and oystering. Many of the fishermen in that area are laid off because of the condition of the ocean and the condition of the organisms.
