  • ANDY GOLDSWORTHY

    INSPIRED ARTGrades K-6th

  • Who is Andy Goldsworthy?◦Andy Goldsworthy creates environmental sculptures, installations, and photography◦He uses materials found in nature to create hismasterpieces. ◦His art is ephemeral, meaning it lasts for a very short time. This is because his materials are often times leaves or sticks, and weather or animals end up moving it.

  • Examples of Goldsworthys Art◦ In this example Goldsworthy uses yellow and red leaves as his materials. He

then arranges them at the base of the tree in a way that makes it look like the ground was painted gold

  • More Andy Goldsworthy Art◦ Here he uses leaves again and arranges them from dark to light, this gives off a

    glowing appearance.

  • More Examples◦ In this example he uses stones. In the first example he arranges them in a spiral. In the

second picture he arranges them in a circle from dark to light going in.

  • More Examples◦ Here he uses sticks and branches to create a spiraling out birds nest

  • Non- Examples◦ Why are these not good examples? Because they were not thoughtfully planned

out or arranged. It looks like they were already on the ground or just thrown there.

    ◦ When somebody looks at your art it should look like it wasn’t there before, it should look purposeful as if someone intentionally gathered and arranged materials

  • Where do I start?◦Go on a walk outside with your family, BRING YOUR CAMERA OR

PHONE!◦ You will need a camera, or your phone to take a picture of your

art=)◦ You can use materials in nature to cast shadows, which might look

cool in your pictures.◦ Do not use man made objects, it has to be materials in nature.◦ Have fun, and email me your art when you finish!◦ Don’t forget to check out the extra art section for more art

    activities/projects.
