EMPLOYMENT

Optare Plc (2001 – Current)

Group Facilities/Health and Safety Manager (2011 – present)

AIM listed division of Ashok Leyland, world’s 5th largest bus and truck manufacturer belonging to the Hinduja Group with presence in more than 30 countries. Optare Plc is known for carbon friendly products and design capabilities with turnover of £80mn.

Key responsibilities included setting up new site in Sherburn while leading the closure of 3 other sites across UK. Day to day responsibility includes identifying and implementing continuous improvement in manufacturing processes, ensuring timely availability of resources to support production including tender and contract management, legal compliance encompassing health & safety and managing assets including off-site assets at supply base.

Key AchievementsIdentified, planned and built production facility in a new site within 9 months from inception and effectively changing the build process from “coach build” to assembly line methodology.

Implemented work methods highlighting opportunities to improve labour productivity and reduce waste.

Sourcing and manufacturing of fast response, effective production operating/tooling solutions.

Implemented safe working practices which helped in reducing insurance cost by 30% over 2 years.

Whilst studying for NEBOSH General Certificate I have now also taken on the role of lead Health and Safety manager for the Group, focused on Employee, buildings and environmental safety.

Production Manager (2009 – 2011)

Responsible for all production activities for Leeds manufacturing site producing 400 bespoke vehicles per year and managing 300 production employees.

Key Achievements

Introduced production management process through key KPI’s and used it effectively to motivating teams in improving quality and productivity.

Driving team behaviour within Production and supporting departments to generate solutions in order to achieve objectives.

Successful in project managing and building the first every Hybrid vehicle in the organisation across all sites.

A wide variety of assignments with increasing responsibilities, including production supervisor, facilities management supervisor and continuous improvement manager.

Plaxton Coach and Bus (1994 - 2001) - Vehicle Bodybuilder

Established over a century ago, the Plaxton name has become a staple of the passenger transport industry in Britain and beyond.

Key responsibilities included working on the luxury coach production line, from flooring to final finishing.

British Rail Engineering LTD (1989 – 1994) - Fitter

British Rail Engineering Limited (BREL), was the railway systems engineering subsidiary of British Rail until the design and building of trains in the UK was privatized.

Key responsibilities included working within the Bodyshell division on the main body shell jig mating the under body, body side and roofing structures.

Key Achievements completing a Four year EITB apprenticeship in fitting and mechanical competences and my City and Guilds qualifications in my chosen trade.
