Current Research Agenda My general research interests include the spatial analysis of crime and criminal behavior, with
more specific research interests in the journey to crime and modeling of small place correlates of
crime. Other research interests include evaluating discretionary police behavior, in particular in
regards to racially biased policing, and program evaluation of criminal justice policies.
Employment in Academic and Research Roles 2012 – Present Crime Analyst (civilian) Troy, NY Police Department
As a civilian crime analyst I perform various analyses related to both tactical and
strategic crime analysis. Example analysis involve investigating emerging spatial and
temporal trends for various crimes, providing regular briefs on recent crimes to various
parties, and regular intelligence sharing for crime sprees that cross neighboring
jurisdictions.
2009 - Present Adjunct Research Analyst for the Finn Institute of Public Safety
The Finn Institute collaborates with several local law enforcement agencies to conduct
research on issues related to crime, public safety, and management of criminal justice
agencies. Sample projects I have collaborated on since being at the institute are assessing
racial bias in traffic stops, analyzing spatial trends in traffic accidents, identifying chronic
offenders for targeted intervention, and analyzing citizen perceptions of satisfaction with
the police.

Consulting Experience
I have experience as a paid consultant conducting GIS analysis for the New York City Police
Department and the New York City Housing Authority in regards to a civil litigation case. I also
have experience consulting as a paid analyst for a survey on delinquent behavior for Children
and Youth Services in Columbia County, PA.
Teaching Experience I have co-taught a course with Jim Gilmer, Mapping and Analyzing Crime (CJS 422), for the
Criminal Justice Department in the College of St. Rose during the fall 2011 semester. The course
involves learning GIS mapping software in application to crime analysis. Previously I have also
tutored statistics and the use of SPSS for the Department of Criminal Justice and Sociology
while I was an undergraduate at Bloomsburg University.
