Talks and Workshops Subjects: Street photography. History, contemporary, and my own take on the subject with lots of examples and many PDI examples. What makes a good photograph? This is a talk which takes an alternative view to the accepted norms of club photography. We look at many other styles of photography and take a look at what made great photographs historically. Looking at composition, lighting and subject matter and examples to stimulate new ideas. Excellent for less advanced club members and a tonic for more experienced photographers Many PDI examples. My career as a professional advertising and editorial photographer. Genres of photography: A whirlwind tour through historic and famous photographers' work plus a look at other styles and genres including, editorial, advertising, documentary, art, fashion, sport etc...The view beyond the camera club competition. Stimulating ideas and invoking discussion. Many PDI examples. The "Art of Photography" For a more advanced group I can present a talk on the "Art of Photography" showing contemporary artists who use photography and photographers who are artists. This comes with a basic discussion on understanding art photography and an overview of the broad range of styles and approaches taken by art photographers. Many examples of artists’ work and some of my own. This talk gives an insight into alternative and thought provoking imagery which can inform and stimulate ideas for our own work. Composition - how to construct an image that will work and how to break the rules and why. Why do some pictures seem to have a natural beauty or “rightness”? How light works in composition and how other elements such as colour, tone and texture all have a place. Lighting – the essence of photography. Understanding how light works, how it creates shadow and form, and, using light to get the most from the range of tones and colours avaiable in your digital camera. Using enhancement to expand the possibilities. All talks illustrated with many projected slides. Travelogues: (About 400 images shown in fairly quick succession) The Trans Siberian Railway: The journey from Vladivostok to Moscow and Including some of Mongolia - the unusual sights, vast landscapes, people and cityscapes.) Winchester, Longmoor, Catterick, Sandhurst and the battlefields around Ypres including the memorial cemeteries and the Menin Gate. Technical workshops: A variety of subjects. Evening or day workshops. From simple beginners queries to advanced techniques for speed, low light, lighting, lenses, enhancement, studio work, etc. Many examples PDI and equipment demonstrations from cameras to lighting including flash, meters and lenses. Computers and enhancement programmes - Lightroom, Elements and Photoshop. For fun: The use of large format film cameras as used in professional photography before digital took over...why we used large format - what were the advantages and what can it teach us about the way we use cameras now. Workshops on Portraiture Lighting and Still Life and Studio photography. An evening or a day with professional lighting and ideas about how to go about lighting a portrait or a still life. (With still life there is very little can be done in one evening - perhaps a concentrated effort on one set of objects or material such as glass.) Portrait sessions are easily managed in one evening - the idea of the workshop is to demonstrate how to begin with a portrait and how to use simple lighting at home or on location to achieve stylish and subtle effects. The art of wedding photography - a "how to" approach with many, many examples. Using my experience photographing hundreds of different weddings this workshop highlights techniques, styles and methods dealing with people and of arranging groups and finding the essential shots. We also cover post production briefly. (A workshop on post production can form the basis for a whole evening separately.) ______________________________________________________________________________ Most workshops can be tailored for 2 hour evening events or 6 - 8 hour whole day events. Evening workshops tend to be taster sessions - demonstrations rather than hands-on. Day workshops usually involve some hands on practice with advice and assistance coupled with assessing results. For workshops I also provide all necessary equipment except cameras. Evening Talks and Workshops are circa £75 plus mileage expenses (45p pm - PAGB recommended rate)
