DESCRIPTION

GeneChip calibration Lots of ‘omics studies but many/most of them have poor reproducibility. Why? Is there a problem with biases in the technologies? Virtually all ‘omic studies don’t have anywhere near enough replicates. What can be learnt from meta-analysis across many thousands of studies. Collaboration with Graham Upton and Berthold Lausen within DMS and others outside U. of Essex

Andrew Harrison PhD and Postdoc in Infra-red and submm spectroscopy (of star forming regions in the nuclei of Galaxies) Protein structure comparison Developing algorithms to use graph theory to rapidly compare the shape of a novel protein with all the other previously observed crystal/NMR structures. Beginning to revisit the statistical methodologies behind the comparisons in collaboration with Hongsheng Dai. GeneChip calibration Lots of omics studies but many/most of them have poor reproducibility. Why? Is there a problem with biases in the technologies? Collaboration with Graham Upton and Berthold Lausen within DMS and others outside U. of Essex How best to use the cloud for bioinformatics? The cloud will revolutionize global education and research, particularly in Africa. How best to help? In collaboration with Nick Cooper and Rick OGorman in Psychology. The microbe observations are a big deal . Please help.
