COMMISSIONERS’ MESSAGE
Students’ Service to the Community through the Anderson ParksAnderson Township is fortunate to have many service oriented groups that benefit the community in wonderful, meaningful ways. 9United is one such organization that has recently partnered with the Anderson Park District helping to make Anderson a great place to live, learn, work and play.
9United is a student-led organization of committed citizens from all nine Forest Hills Schools providing authentic service opportunities throughout the community. This unity strengthens 9United’s ability to positively impact many lives through opportunities to give and receive.
Bottlecaps to Benches is a current 9United project that we are excited about! The project collects plastic caps and lids that will be recycled into benches. Typically plastic caps and lids are not considered recyclable and unfortunately end up in the landfill. However, 9United takes the plastic caps and lids they have collected to a company in Indiana, which has
figured out a way to recycle them into useful things including benches. 9United then donates the benches to local parks for the public to enjoy!
The Anderson Park District is collecting the plastic caps and lids for 9United’s Bottlecaps to Benches project. If you would like to join us in the effort, drop off your clean plastic caps and lids to the Juilfs Park office during business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Collection containers are also located in the nine Forest Hills School cafeterias for student participation.
9United representatives anticipate the first park bench will be installed this fall for the community to enjoy at Juilfs Park. To learn more about this project or about 9United, visit 9United.org.
On behalf of the Board of Park Commissioners, we hope you find time to enjoy your parks this fall!
