It is always in a position such that the weight of the disc will close the ITV when not being held open by the operator. Self Seating Disc - The 4- through 18-inch [100 through 450 mm] pivot type ITV disc is free to pivot within the actuating arm and therefore sits freely on the circular Teflon ® seal. The 6-, 12-, 24- and 30-inch [150, 300, 600, 750 mm] plug type ITV maintains a constant geometric relation between spherical disc face and conical seal. These design features permit perfect seating regardless of minor misalignments. All SS Construction - All materials are proven fully compatible with cryogenic temperatures.To ensure weld and thermal compatibility in service, the orifice plate material is of the same type as the tank bottom and is usually customer furnished. Rotating joints have one surface coated with Teflon ® . Net Force On Tank Bottom Is Down - The cable force produced by the open and close operators is intentionally limited so that it can never exceed the total weight of the installed ITV. In this way we assure that up-loads will not damage the tank bottom. Redundant Open Cable - Completely redundant opening cables are provided so that the valve may be manually operated should the need occur. Pressure Equalizing Pilot Valve - The first motion of the open operator opens a pilot valve integral with the valve disc. Product flows through the pilot valve and fills pipe to the downstream block valve, equalizing the static differential pressure across the ITV disc. The force limited operator will stop until pressures equalize at which point the opening operator will continue. Anti-Vortex Vanes - A series of radially positioned flat plates are provided to counter the Coriolis Effect and thus prevent lowered pressure and resulting product gasification during withdrawal. Position Indication Switch Option - Anderson Greenwood can provide explosion-proof limit switches (NEMA Type 7, Class 1, Groups C and D) mounted on the open operator to indicate valve position (open or closed). Auxiliary Close Cables - Close cables are provided to augment normal sealing forces and to improve the manipulative flexibility of the system. Control Panel Option - Anderson Greenwood can provide all necessary components for control of the ITV in a single weather-tight enclosure designed for roof installation and remote operation. FeaturesFail Safe Isolation - The Internal TankValve is a fail-safe isolation valve forbottom and side withdrawal tanks. It isalways in a position such that the weightof the disc will close the ITV when notbeing held open by the operator.

NFPA No. 59A sets forth the NationalFire Protection Associationrequirements for the design,engineering and handling of LiquefiedNatural Gas. According to this code,when a tank has a bottom penetration inLNG storage containers, the leastamount of surrounding property isrequired if an internal shutoff valve isused.

The Anderson Greenwood Internal TankValve is designed to satisfy all of therequirements of NFPA No. 59A for thistype of installation, specifically,paragraph 6333:

“The design and installation of aninternal valve shall be such that anyfailure of the penetrating nozzleresulting from external pipe strain will bebeyond the shutoff seats of the internalvalve itself.”

The ITV is designed for long trouble-freelife. Design features are simple yetrugged to withstand the rigors ofconstruction. No maintenance of the ITVis required after installation.

When mounted on the tank bottom, thisvalve allows near 100% withdrawal ofliquid.

It does not depend upon counter-weights or actuator forces for closing.The fail-safe condition of the ITV isclosed.

A block valve is always to be provided inseries with this valve. The downstreamblock valve must be closed before theITV can be opened. This prevents theITV from being opened on an open orruptured downstream line.

Seal ruggedness and long life areevaluated as more important factorsthan absolute leak tightness. The sealmay be installed as a separate unit.

The use of this valve increases safety,minimizes property requirements, andshould lower insurance liability.

Developed primarily for the LNGPeakshaving Facilities, AndersonGreenwood offers a pivot mountedcheck valve design in sizes 4-, 6-, 8-,10-,12-, 14-, 16- and 18-inch [100, 150, 200,250, 300, 350, 400 and 450 mm]. (The6- and 12-inch [150 and 300 mm] arealso offered in a plug valve design, seepage 5.) The pivot design may be usedfor any application where fill rates do notexceed 8,000 GPM [1800 m3/hr] (18-inch [450 mm] size). Maximum withdrawrates vary with size up to 17,000 gallonsper minute [3850 m3/hr].

For Base Load Liquefaction Facilitiesand Import/Receiving Terminals thatrequire high inflow velocities, AndersonGreenwood offers a plug valve design in24- and 30-inch [600 and 750 mm] sizesillustrated below. These valves aredesigned for normal inflow velocities of30 feet per second [9 m/sec] and willaccommodate ‘slugging’ velocities to 50feet per second [15 m/sec] withoutproducing a force on the tank bottom.Stream dynamic forces on the disc arecompletely reacted by the weight of thedisc plus the weight of the fixed valveparts. Product may be withdrawnthrough this valve at 48,000 GPM[10,900 m3/hr] maximum. This design isalso available in 6- and 12-inch [150 and300 mm] sizes for LOX, LIN and othersmaller scale liquefaction and storagefacilities. The 6-inch [150 mm] plug typeITV is also available in a gravity closeversion, eliminating close operators for amore economical solution.

Developed for side withdrawal double-walled tanks, Anderson Greenwoodoffers a side mounted pivot check valvedesign in sizes 12-, 14-, 16- and 18-inch[300, 350, 400 and 450 mm]. The pivotdesign may be used for any applicationwhere fill rates do not exceed 8,000GPM [1800 m3/hr] (18-inch [450 mm]size). Operators

Operation of the ITV is by force limitedoperators mounted on the tank roof. Oneoperator is for opening and one forclosing the valve. As a backup to theprimary open operator, a completelyindependent manual cable is provided inthe 4-inch through 18-inch [100 through450 mm] ITVs. On the 6- and 12-inch[150 and 300 mm] plug designs, amanual close operator is provided toallow all operating functions to beenclosed in a single housing for easierinstallation for the much heavier 24- and30-inch [600 and 750 mm] ITV, aseparate operator housing with handoperated hydraulic pump is provided foremergency use. Stainless steel cablesfrom the operators to the valves areinstalled with enough cable slack toaccommodate maximum thermal andload changes of the tank top to tank

bottom dimension. Since proper cablelength is critical to the valve operation,cable length adjustment is providedinside each operator housing. Air orhydraulic cylinders provide thenecessary force to open or close thevalve with a maximum required supplypressure of 100 psig [6.9 barg]. The aircylinders are sized so that the system isinherently safe from overloading thebottom of the tank at operatingpressures. Anderson Greenwood Series80 Relief Valves on the supply lineprovide backup assurance for theseforce-limited operators. Limit switchesare available to indicate open and closeposition.

Schematic A shows the typical controlsrequired for operating the ITV forwithdrawal applications with limited fillingvelocities. Control components are

normally provided by the customer butAnderson Greenwood can providestandard control packages. Regulatedpressure is required for each operator. Athree-way solenoid valve providesremote actuation capability. Emergencyoperation after loss of air supply isprovided by a reserve air bottle.

For high velocity (30 FPS [9 m/sec]normal) fill applications with the 24- or30-inch ITV [600 or 750 mm],Schematic B shows an air/oil systemprovided by Anderson Greenwood thatfully opens the valve disc and thensuspends it so that the full disc weight isavailable to react against inflow dynamicforces. Control components furnished bythe customer are similar to Schematic A.
