MINUTES• Shirley called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m.. Her thought for the day: 'The best way to tell if you're a fabric addict is to check your stash. If you can see the ceiling, it's not that bad.'• The minutes were approved as printed in the newsletter with one correction. The date for the Stitch-a-Bit meeting was April 25th, not April 22nd.• The treasurer's report was filed for audit as printed. The balance is the same as last month.• Birthdays in May: Sue – 16th, Eula – 24th, and Shirley A – 30th.• Remembrances: Nancy Mills had back surgery on May 3rd, but is now home and recovering.• Membership: 33 members present and 3 guests, Zoe Blanton (Christine's granddaughter), and Mary Raburn and Ruth Davis from the Ellis County Quilt Guild with their donation quilt.• Newsletter: Deadline remains the 10th of the month.• TAQG: Katrina is selling admission tickets, lunch tickets, raffle tickets, and pins. Our 500 fat quarters for the goody bags were given to Katrina tonight.• B-O-M – We only have two more blocks – June and

July. We will then start a traditional pattern, Moonlight Dancer, which will finish 2019 and take us through most of 2020. Elisabeth will get the fabric requirements to Paco to send out via e-mail.• Workshops: Debi has set June 22nd as the date for the Mystery quilt as the church did not have the 8th available. She has 3 dates possible for the marbling workshop, July 6th, August 3rd, or August 17th. The cost is $32 plus tax for 4 fat quarters, and we must have at least 10 people sign up. • Stitch-a-Bit: We meet the 4th Thursday of each month at 1st Presbyterian from 9 to 3. We would love to see more there as we have a great time exchanging ideas and just visiting in general. Lunch is on your own.• There was no unfinished business. There was no new business.• Door Prizes: Debi, Eula, Barbara G., and Ruth• Show and Tell: Elisabeth, Evelyn, Gloria, Jane, Nancy S., Eula, Margaret, Michelle, and Jeri.• Our program was on tips for more successful projects. Next month's program is TBA.• The meeting adjourned following the program.

JUNE PROGRAM

(MYSTERY)WORKSHOP

We have another mystery to solve-I loved reading Nancy Drew mysteries growing up! This mystery will be solved June 22 at First Presbyterian Church starting at 9 a.m. Bring your sleuthing items listed below:

• 3 fat quarters in mediums or light darks

• 1/2 yard sashing, contrasts to the fat quarters

• 3/4 yard for borders• 1 1/4 yard background,

light• 1 fat quarter black• 2" thangles, optional • 4" thangles, optional• Cutting mat• Rotary cutter• Ruler to square up blocks,

4 1/2" or largerCutting instructions so we can get

started solving this mystery are later in the newsletter. This is a small wall hanging size-45" x 63". The pattern suggests 30s prints, but would also be good for batiks.

Everyone will be on their own for lunch so we can brown bag, order pizza or go out.

and Jeri for donating wonderful mini-quilts for the silent auction. Thanks to Shirley Lewis and Michelle for attaching the guild business cards to the fat quarters we are donating for the goodie bags. And thanks to everyone who brought items for the door prizes. I put together two door prizes crammed full of new sewing items. So we are good to go!

You can still purchase pins, admission tickets, lunches, and tickets for the pre-Rally Day raffle. There are great prizes: gift certificates, rolling case, and a light box. Contact Katrina Lindley or bring check or cash to the June meeting! There are still spots available in the workshops. There is information about registering for them on the TAQG website TAQG.org

Rally Day is on Saturday July 13th at Mimosa Lane Baptist church, 1233 N Beltline Rd., Mesquite. Doors open at 9 am. The program by Pam Holland (who is coming all the way from Australia) will begin at 10. She will give two presentations.

You will have an opportunity to view and purchase raffle tickets for over 25 quilts. There will be YLI thread and Pam’s items for sale. You may purchase tickets for the TAQG Rally Day Raffle with great prizes! The first 500 people through the door will receive a goody bag. There will be over 200 door prizes. JUNE 2019 — VOL. 26 NO. 11

BLOCK OF THE MONTHHere are the instructions for the Block of the Month (instructions to make the

strips are the same for the next 6 months). If you have any questions about these directions, please contact Elisabeth McMahon.

How to make the stripsFor the next 6 months, we will be

working on a 12-block sampler quilt (wall-hanging or baby quilt).

Each block starts as a strip set, and the cutting instructions are the same for each block.

You will need a total of twelve 2.5 inch strips for all of the blocks.

1. Choose four 2.5 inch strips. Cut each strip into half lengthwise (long ways). You will end up with eight 1.25 inch strips.

2. Make a strip set by sewing four

different strips together, and repeat for the other set of four strips. Use a very scant .25 inch seam. Press the seams all one way. Use ONE strip this month, and set the other aside until next month.

3. Using the 45-degree line on your cutting mat or ruler, cut a series of right triangles for the entire strip

.4. Cut each triangle in half:

You now have enough triangles to create two blocks for this month.

NOTE: Don't try to save time by just flipping your ruler back and forth to cut the small triangles without cutting the pyramids first. The colors won't be in the right place to form your blocks.

JUNE'S BLOCK ARRANGEMENTHere is what the next few months look like:• June: Bring your June block; I'll show you the last block in the sampler• July: Bring your July block HOPEFULLY included in your complete

sampler quilt!** In July, I'll show the first Moonlight block.• August: Bring your first Moonlight block**Most of us have sewn blocks together with sashing, but here's a link if it's new

Welcome to Planet Patchwork’s BOM

“Moonlight Dancers”2009 - 2010

As before each year we come up with a different BOM design for you to make. A few years ago thepublic voted on 6 different quilts for the new BOM. We are proud to present “Moonlight Dancers”. Welove your comments and excitement and would love to hear what you have to say. Thank you for supportingour BOM.

Just as before you are not tied to one color way but are free to choose your fabrics and let youimagination run wild. It will be interesting to see what you come up with.

The finished size of this quilt will be about 60" x 74".

Yardage figured using 44" wide fabric and cutting borders from selvedge to selvedge. If you chooseto make one long piece for the borders you will need more fabric. Below is a list of yardage needed tocomplete your quilt top (main quilt and borders). As always yardage is figured more than actually needed.
