KALGOORLIEThe Kalgoorlie Campus puts Curtin Western Australian School of Mines students in the heart of WA's most historic mining region. The school offers internationally recognised courses in mining engineering, metallurgical engineering, geographic information science, surveying, extractive metallurgy, applied geology and exploration geophysics. The school also operates from the main campus in Bentley.

We offer more than 1,000 places to stay at our main campus. Curtin’s accommodation is a popular way to stay close to campus. Due to high demand, we recommend you apply for student housing as soon as you apply to study at Curtin.

STUDY AREAS

Graduate career-ready with a Curtin bachelor degree or see where your career could take you with a postgraduate qualification.

UNDERGRADUATE

BACHELOR DEGREE

A bachelor degree is the first degree earned at university. At Curtin, it is awarded for completing an undergraduate course of study.

HONOURS

As a natural extension to a bachelor degree, a year of honours study consists of coursework at an advanced level and research or project work.

DOUBLE DEGREE

Double degrees combine units from two compatible courses. You can complete the two degrees in less time than it would take to complete them separately.

POSTGRADUATE

GRADUATE CERTIFICATE

As a short vocationally-oriented program, graduate certificate courses are designed to develop skills in a specialised area of study.

GRADUATE DIPLOMA

The graduate diploma is a specialised, vocationally orientated award usually completed in two semesters. Entry is usually based on completion of a bachelor degree or diploma.

GRADUATE ENTRY MASTER

Graduate entry master courses provide a fast-track learning experience for students who already hold a bachelor degree.

MASTER DEGREE

A school may accept you into a master degree provided you hold appropriate qualifications as decided by the head of school.

RESEARCH DEGREESResearch degrees differ to other postgraduate degrees in that at least two-thirds of the study program involves research. Although some coursework units may be required, the main part of your work will be in the form of a thesis written under the guidance of a supervisor and associate supervisor(s).

MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY

The Master of Philosophy aims to expand knowledge beyond the undergraduate honours or postgraduate diploma level, culminating in a research thesis. Upon completion of a master by research degree, you may apply to be considered for entry into a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PHD)

As a doctoral research degree candidate, you will uncover new knowledge either by the discovery of new facts, the formulation of theories or the innovative reinterpretation of known data and established ideas.

COUNTRY QUALIFICATION AND MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Australia Completion of Australian Year 12 (VCE, HSC, QCE, WACE, SACE, TCE, NTCE, ACT) with a minimum Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 70; and a scaled mark of at least 50 in English, Literature, or English as an Additional Language or Dialect.

Bangladesh Completion of the Bangladesh Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) with a minimum Grade Point average of 4.0 (70–79%). Separate evidence of English competence is required.

Botswana Refer to United Kingdom OR successful completion of part one (first two years) of a degree at University of Botswana. English competence will be assessed individually.

Brazil Successful completion of the first year of a four-year bacheral/bachareldo or licenciatura/licenciado (degree) or titulo professional (professional title) from a recognised institution and English competence.

Brunei Three O-level passes (minimum grade C) and two A-level passes (minimum five points) in the Brunei Cambridge General Certificate of Education (GCE), and English competence.

Canada Completion of a provincial high school diploma with an average of 60 or better in Grade 12, and including a grade of 60 or better in Year 12 English (except Quebec where separate evidence of English is required).

ChinaSuccessful completion of the National College Entrance Examination (NCEE or also known as Gao Kao) and obtain an aggregate of the required individual subjects which is equivalent to 67% of the overall maximum score, or a grade of 322/480, 422/630, 503/750, 543/810 or 603/900 with separate evidence of English competence required OR one year of a bachelor degree at a recognised university and English competence.

GermanyCompletion of the Abitur/Zeugnis der Allegmeinen Hochschulreife or Reifezeugnis (secondary school leaving certificate) at Gymnasium with an average grade of 4 including English or separate English competence OR successful completion of the Fachgebundene Hochschulreife with separate evidence of English competency required.

All India Senior School Certificates awarded by the Central Board of Secondary Education with an average of 65% in four subjects, one of which must be English (with 65% or better) or separate English competence OR Indian School Certificate (Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations) with an average of 65% in five subjects, one of which must be English (with 65% or better) or separate evidence of English competence. IndonesiaSuccessful completion of Ijazah Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) (Certificate of Completion from Academic Senior Secondary School) with an overall average grade of at least 71% and at least an overall average grade of 71% from the Surat Keterangan Hasil Ujian Nasional (SKHUN) (Certificate of Graduation) in meeting Curtin’s minimum academic entry requirement, separate evidence of English competence is required.

Iran Successful completion of the first year of a four-year bachelor degree at a recognised institution and English competence OR successful completion of a two-year associate degree or higher diploma (after completion of National High School Diploma) from a recognised institution and English competence.

Japan Successful completion of first year of a Gakushi (bachelor degree) at a recognised institution and English competence OR Certificate of Graduation awarded by a recognised technical/vocational college and English competence.

Kenya Successful completion of the first year of a bachelor degree at a recognised institution and English competence.

MalaysiaThree credit passes at SPM level and two passes in STPM (minimum 5 points) and English competence OR completion of the Malaysian Independent Chinese Secondary Schools Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) (Senior Middle Level) with 20 points aggregated from the best five academic subjects and English competence.

MauritiusThree O-level passes (minimum grade C) and two A-level passes (minimum five points) in the Cambridge Higher School Certificate and grade C in O-level English or English literature OR full International Baccalaureate with a minimum total of 24 points from six subjects at one sitting. Three of the subjects must be at the higher level and one of the six subjects should be English.

Myanmar Successful completion of a four-year bachelor degree or two years of a five-year honours degree at a recognised institution and English competence.

Nepal Completion of one year full-time study of a four-year bachelor, or two years full-time study of a three-year bachelor from a recognised higher education institution. Separate evidence of English competence is required.

Norway Completion of the Vitnemal: den Videregaende Skole (Certificate of Upper Secondary Education) with an average grade of 3 plus a grade of 4 or better in English from the Norwegian Certificate of Upper Secondary Education (Vitnemål fra den Videregående Skole).

Oman Successful completion of one year of a bachelor degree at Sultan Qaboos University and English competence OR completion of a recognised diploma at a public institution and English competence.

Pakistan Completion of the Pakistan Higher Secondary Certificate/Intermediate Certificate with at least an average of 75% of the total marks (770 out of 1100), separate English competency is required. This qualification does not satisfy subject prerequisites.

Philippines Successful completion of the first year of a four-year bachelor degree at a recognised institution with separate evidence of English competence OR successful completion of a full bachelor degree at selected institutions and English competence.

Russia Successful completion of one year of a Diplom ob okonchanii vysshego uchebnego zavedeniya (Diploma of Specialist) at a state institution or fully accredited private institution where separate evidence of English competence is required.

Saudi Arabia Successful completion of the first year of a four-year bachelor degree at a recognised institution and English competence OR successful completion of a two year diploma or associate degree at a public university and English competence.

Singapore Three GCE O-level passes (minimum grade C) OR completion of the Integrated Program PLUS two GCE A-level passes (minimum 5 points). Grade C in O-level English or English literature OR separate evidence of English competence.

South AfricaCompletion of the Senior Certificate (by Matriculation Board or the South African Certification Council) with an average grade of C or 5 in six subjects (excluding Life Orientation), including a grade of C or 5 in English OR Matriculation Certificate (issued by the Matriculation Board) with an average mark of at least 65% in six subjects, and three subjects at the higher grade (one of these must be English).

Sri Lanka Three O-level passes (minimum grade C) and three A-level passes (minimum 5 points) in the Sri Lankan General Certificate of Education (GCE) (excluding General Paper). Grade C in General English or separate evidence of English competence.

Taiwan Successful completion of the first year of a four-year bachelor degree at a recognised institution and English competence.

TanzaniaThree passes (minimum grade C) in the Certificate of Secondary Education (CSE) examinations of the National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) and two principal level passes in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (ACSE) (minimum of one C and one D grade). United Arab Emirates

Successful completion of the first year of a degree at United Arab Emirates University and English competence OR successful completion of a diploma or higher diploma at a recognised institution, and English competence.

United Kingdom

Three GCE O-level/GCSE passes and two GCE A-level passes (minimum 5 points). Grade C or better in GCE O-level/GCSE English, English literature or English language, or separate evidence of English competence.

US

A United States High School or a High School Diploma based on a US curriculum with an average grade of B or better in 12th grade and a combined score of at least 1090 out of 1600 in the Evidence-based Reading and Writing and Math in the SAT from the same sitting, with a minimum of 510 in Evidence-based Reading and Writing and 500 in Math component or a composite score of 24 or better in the American College Test (ACT) OR successful completion of the first year of a four-year bachelor degree at a regionally accredited institution.

Vietnam Completion of the Bang Tu tai or Bang Tot nghiep Pho thong Trung hoc (Vietnamese Upper Secondary School Graduation Diploma) with at least 8.00 in the score for graduation evaluation, separate evidence of English competence is required.

Zambia Refer to United Kingdom OR successful completion of the first year of a degree at University of Zambia or The Copperbelt University, and English competence.

FEE INFORMATIONThe tuition fees (shown in Australian dollars) are based on a normal full-time workload of 100 credits per semester (200 credits per year) unless otherwise stated. Signatures on certified copies of transcript(s) and award certificate(s) must be dated and accompanied by an ink imprint stamp/chop from the following accepted authorities:

• Curtin International staff member

• a person of authority at the issuing institution (for example, registrar)

• Justice of the Peace

• Commissioner for Oaths/Declarations

• any notary public.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION

Certified copies of your transcript(s) and award certificate(s) in the original language (if issued in a language other than English) must be provided with English language translated copies from the following accepted authorities:

• an official and accredited translator

• a person of authority at the issuing institution.

2. AWAIT YOUR OFFERAssessment of your application takes two to four weeks.

If we require more documents to assess your application, they will be requested from you. Assessment of your application will be delayed until we receive these documents.

CREDIT FOR RECOGNISED LEARNING

We will not be able to assess credit for recognised learning (CRL) for previous studies without certified copies of all your academic transcripts / statement of marks and award certificates to date.

CRL is granted at the discretion of the school/faculty.

3. RECEIVE YOUR OFFERIf your application is successful, you will receive an offer package containing:

• a Letter of Offer

• a Simplified Student Visa Framework form (if applicable)

• an Acceptance of Offer form

• a Payment Options form

• the Terms of Offer

• an International Student Refund Agreement flyer

• Curtin's Pre-departure Guide

• Curtin Housing Services flyer

• Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) information.

4. ACCEPT YOUR OFFERWhen you receive your offer package, carefully review your Letter of Offer and make sure your name, course title and semester details are correct.

Once you meet all the conditions on your Letter of Offer, submit the Acceptance of Offer form along with your deposit for tuition fees, the Overseas Student Health Cover fee and a photocopy of your passport details page.

Students under 18 years of age

If you will be under 18 years old when you start your studies at Curtin, you will need to nominate an approved carer, who will have responsibility for your welfare in Australia until you turn 18, after which you are considered an adult by Australian law.

You will also need to complete a local carer form and other documentation required by the relevant Australian authorities when you apply for your Australian student visa. Visit immi.gov.au for more details.

Note: The documentation required for students aged under 18 years old can take up to six weeks to process. If the correct documentation is not provided, you will not be able to enrol at Curtin.

5. APPLY FOR YOUR VISAYou will need to apply for your student visa after receiving your electronic Confirmation of Enrolment, which will be sent to you via email.

The duration of your student visa will vary depending on your course. Contact the Australian Embassy to find out more about the visa application process.
