KINGDOM CHALLENGE by Donny Cortimilia What a great annual meeting we had. Kelvin Cochran delivered a powerful message. If you have not read his book it is entitled, Who Told You That You Were Naked? It is a great book, but it will enlighten you to see how far the enemy is willing to go to find something which they consider nega-tive on someone. Thank you to Iglesia Bautista Immanuel for leading us in a praise time to God. Thanks for the time you invested in practicing, transporting and setting up your equipment. Thank you to Alamo Heights Baptist Church and their pastor, Robert Murphy. Thanks also to those who helped set up the church, those who helped in the kitchen getting the meal ready. Thank you to Glenn Heubner and Hank Henry for cooking the meal for us. They were cooking most of Sunday afternoon. Also I would like to than Hank Henry our outgoing Moderator. Hank has been a friend I can count on since my arrival in 2008. He has helped the Network in many ways and his leadership has been in-valuable to me. It is not every day that I get to work with someone who worked with my father. In the early 80’s Texas Instruments opened a plant in Midland and my father was transferred out her for a short time. He remembered working with Hank out there. Thank you Hank for your work on the Ad-ministration Team of the Network. I want to thank Vaughny Taylor and Jimmy Daniel as they also rotate off the Administrative team. They have great leadership skills and are good friends. Vaughny serves as Pastor of Central Bap-tist, Odessa and Jimmy as the Connect and Grow Pastor of Crestview Baptist, Midland. Throughout the year we will be highlighting the persecuted church. We are in the beginning stages of persecution of Christians in America. Just yesterday I saw a report that some Muslim drivers that declined to deliver alcohol because of their religious convictions. In 2013, the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission sued the carrier on behalf of the drivers. The lawsuit claimed the company violated the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which requires employers to accommodate the religious beliefs of their employees if doing so does not cause undue hardship. So what about the florist in Washington that was sued by the government for not providing wedding flowers for a ho-mosexual couple? Why are her religious views not considered? Why does the government protect one and vilify the other? The enemy is attacking the church in America like never before. What has begun will certainly grow more intense. The split between right and wrong will continue to grow wider and deeper. We have been insulated for many years of persecution and suffering for our faith, but tomorrow holds no such promise. The growing pains will be sharp. The fallout will be great. Once strong, hallowed churches will no longer be the place we can run to. We will have to find strength in God and in God alone. There will be no government to help us out, no place to turn but to God. Corrie Ten Boom said, “You will never know if Jesus is enough until Jesus is all you have.” We need to take this serious. Next year at our Annual Meeting we will have Nik Ripken. Nik spent several years traveling and researching from China to Russia to Africa. And he wrote about his find-ings about persecution brought against Christians. He will be here for our Annual Meeting, and also do a workshop on the persecuted church in the days following the meeting. It is not something I hope to have to go through, but if called upon by God that I can be found faithful in.

Kingdom News  November 2015

There are some great opportunities for college students in the Midland Odes-sa area. The first is a trip to Vietnam in December. Vietnam was a place I had never been before, but had the opportunity to take six BSM students to Ho Chi Minh City last year just after Christmas. We worked with 2ND Mission and visited university campuses to invite college students to share some free cof-fee with us at a coffee shop. After a day of visiting we would gather in a room at the public coffee shop. There we would sing some silly songs (not quite Veggie Tale songs, but almost). They would laugh and try to keep up with our English. Then we engaged them in English conversation. We thought we would bring a somewhat veiled message of salvation, give them a free gift and perhaps later there would be some response. However, the team leader for our group decided to give a full gospel mes-sage and invitation each night. So, we did! Wow, did God do an amazing work. Over the three days and nights we saw almost fifty college students profess faith in Jesus Christ. We are thankful for the prayers and financial support of those who sent us, the work of Christians in the past who prepared the soil, planted and watered seeds and gave their lives so we could see a harvest. A harvest never just happens; it is the result of blood, sweat and tears. Students also met with friends of their new Vietnamese friends in more intimate settings. They shared their testimonies and the gospel mes-sage. God gave fruit there as well. For some of our students, this was this first time they had shared the gospel message in such a way, and definitely the first time they were able to offer a response opportunity and actually pray with some-one their own age to accept Christ. We will also participate in Passion 2016 in Houston. It is always inspiring to see that many college students praise the Lord, listen to His Word and give sacrificially to send missionaries out into the world. We are taking a spring break mission trip in Texas; we also have several students making plans to serve with either BSM State Missions (GO NOW) or the North American Mission Board (NAMB) in specific projects this spring or summer. I am blessed to watch students see Jesus lived out in their lives. Many are timid when they arrive, but soon blossom into leaders for the church today and tomorrow. Pray for them, for me and for this ministry. If you can help support any of these students for these outreach opportunities, please send your contributions to BSM (missions outreach), Basin Baptist Network, PO Box 60180, Midland, TX 79711. The investment we make in today’s college students will help prepare leaders for our churches tomorrow. tammy

GUIDEPOSTS MAGAZINES NEEDED FOR

The First Baptist Church Jail Ministry would like your help in getting donations of used Guideposts magazines to send to inmates doing Bible lessons. The First Baptist Church (FBC) has had a ministry to the local county jail for over a half century. In the 1980’s we start-ed sending inmates non-denominational Bible Lessons to do during the week, and when offenders went from Midland to Texas State Jails, others saw the material and wanted lessons as well. One reason for wanting the lessons was be-cause we sent additional reading materials and whenever possible a Guideposts magazine. There are over 150,000 inmates in Texas jails. FBC is sending material to about 1250 students each month and the number is growing. Prison is an ideal mission field because people in jail have time to reflect and review their lives. If we can encourage them to follow Matthew 6:33, lives will be saved. Copies can be left at the FBC Missions Office at 2206 W. Louisiana or someone will gladly pick up any donated copies or answer questions about what we do. Just call 683-0623 and leave a message. We would appreciate your help in ministering to Texas offenders. God bless you. Louise Goode, Jail Ministry Coordinator Hank Henry, Associate Minster of Missions, FBC Midland, Moderator Basin Baptist Network

You are invited to participate/attend COMBINED CHRISTMAS CONCERT

December 16 at 7:00 pm Central Baptist Church - Odessa

The Central Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir will be hosting our annual "Combined Choir Concert" and Christ-mas Fellowship at Central Baptist Church on Wednesday evening December 16, at 7:00 p.m. Please add this event to your schedules and calendars and make plans to participate/attend.. We will be performing the Dennis & Nan Allen composition of "Come and Behold Him". It has some wonderful new tunes and great treatments of some traditional Christmas music in an attainable format that I believe everyone will enjoy. Again this year we will be using the "Combined Choir" format so if you know of others who would like to join us and sing in our Christmas Concert and Fellowship be sure and forward me their contact information. I will get a CD to them so they can begin rehearsing on their own. PraiSing the Savior all the day long! Vaughny Taylor Cell: 432-556-2943 E-mail: [email protected]
