WHAT YOU GET, WHAT YOU SAY.And Getting Something More
Mark 10:35-45
What You Get
Proverbs 30:15a Friendship, families, jobs fall apart from
selfishness. Moochers, freeloaders, deadbeats,
leeches
Are you more interested in what Christians can give you or in what you can give to them?
“Give Me That!”, he demanded.
Your Response: “Yes, Please Take This!” 2 Cor 12:15a – “I will very gladly spend
and be spent for your souls” 1 Cor 6:7 – He asks. Why not take wrong
from another Christian? Why not “be defrauded”?
2 Cor 12:15b – “The more I love you, the less I am loved.”
Mark 10:45
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve . . .”
What You Get is the Chance to Serve.
WHAT YOU GET, WHAT YOU SAY.And Getting Something More
What You Say, Luke 15:11-26
Saying It For Myself, v. 12 “Give Me” leads me down a sad road.
Saying It To Myself, v. 17-18a “I Perish. . .” at least states reality. Take Stock of My “Christian” Actions.
2 Cor 13:5 Saying It Against Myself, v. 18b-21
“I Have Sinned . . . I am not worthy . . .” Here is the moment God steps in. God is
worthy.
WHAT YOU GET, WHAT YOU SAY.
And Getting Something More
Getting Something More
Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, And your labor for that which does not satisfy?
Isaiah 55:2 RSV Is there more? V 1 - Everyone who thirsts, Come to the
waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
Longings that Cannot be Filled!
Cannot be filled with this world. Even when we are in fellowship with God
on this earth! Psalm 5:3 – David – “In the morning, O
LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.”
But his imaginings are more than life can offer! Best he has is worship and being led.
If this world can not satisfy, then
I was made for another world.
One that I can almost imagine,A world lost,
Adam and Eve’s world, A perfect Eden.
Never forget that!
Getting Something More
Reach Forward, as Paul Reached, Phil. 3 Isaiah 55:6 “Seek the Lord, while He may
be found . . .” Matthew 6:33 – “Seek first the kingdom
of God and His righteousness . . .” Colossians 3:1 – “Since you have been
raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above where Christ is . . .”
What We Have Right Now
Is not all we need. Isa 53:3 – the world is so broken, He
could only be the “Man of Sorrows and familiar with suffering.”
We dare not forget who we are, where we are from and where we are going.
Reach beyond the joys of your family, the treasures of this church to satisfy your
longing.
WHAT YOU GET, WHAT YOU SAY.
And Getting Something More
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus . . .”
Phil 2:3-5
“. . . One thing I do: Forgetting what is behindand straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus . . . Our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, Who, by the power that enables Him to bring everything under His control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like His glorious body.”
Phil 3:13, 14. 20, 21
