YOUR SCHOOLFUNDRAISING pack!
Champions of Change is an exciting education initiative that puts children in charge. They’ll plan and run their own fundraising events to raise money for BBC Children in Need. As a result, they’ll develop new skills based on curriculum requirements, have loads of fun and raise money to help children and young people across the UK who need it most.
Last year’s trial of Champions of Change was a phenomenal success. Pupils were inspired and empowered by their fundraising and teachers were impressed by the ready-to-use resources which made the whole process simple.
This year, with your help, our ambition is to make 2015 the biggest fundraising year yet, positively impacting more children than ever before.
Change starts here!
Thank you in advance for your support.

CelebrateCelebrate everything that your school has achieved in a memorable Celebration of Champions assembly.
If you’ve got budding camera-operators or photographers in school, assign them with the task of capturing the fundraising on camera.
ActionPupils learn about the cause and plan fundraising events. You’ll fi nd a full suite of resources, from lesson plans to the tools pupils need to run their events online. If pupils have their own ideas about what they want to do, embrace their spirit and go freestyle! There are customisable posters, sponsorship forms and worksheets online that they can use.
ur class did lots of fundraising activities for BBC Children in Need.
It was great to be in charge and as a result of our lessons and discussions we had many fundraising activities for the
whole school. We had a nail bar, a tattoo parlour, a bake sale, face painting, beat the goalie, Pudsey bracelets and lots more! We raised a staggering £1,500!

What’s it like to be a Champion?
Make sure pupils know
that they are in charge
but point out which
teachers will be on hand
to help as they plan
their events
Get started todayPupils’ fi rst step in planning their Launch
Assembly is to go online. Here they can:
• Download the Champions Log Book to help
and guide them on their fundraising journey.
• Check out the Launch Presentation to use
in your assembly.
• View videos of some of the children who
have been helped through money from
BBC Children in Need that they can use to
highlight the ways their fundraising can help.
Pupils will need to plan an exciting Launch Assembly to kick-start Champions of Change in your school. Allow plenty of time for planning and brief them that their assembly needs to:
Take a day o from school assembly and hand the reins over to the pupils.
Get the whole school excited about all the activities coming up.
Inspire people to want to join in the fun and get involved.
Grab everyone’s attention.
Inform pupils about what Champions of Change is and why you’re fundraising.
Get pupils thinking about what specifi c information
they could add to their presentation – your school’s
fundraising target, plans for activities or some
information about BBC Children in Need projects
in your area?
Encourage pupils to play to each person’s
strengths as they plan their assembly and make
sure to set aside enough time to rehearse.
Don’t forget to check out the lesson plans online
to help pupils understand and connect with the
cause and get to grips with planning their event.

Picnic with PudseySell tickets for a giant teddy bear’s picnic in Pudsey’s honour. You could hold it in the school fi eld or hall. Charge people to attend with their favourite teddy and provide baked treats for the human guests.
Guess the weightPut those catering trays to good use and bake an enormous cake. Maybe each class or year group could bake a layer. Those not involved in the baking can decorate! Charge pupils to guess the weight and whoever’s closest wins!

Hair dareCharge people to have a mad hair day – the bigger and crazier the better – wigs allowed. You could even turn it into a competition and award a prize for the craziest hair.
DRESS-UP! Photocopy this page as a pupil resource
At the end of your fundraising journey, make time for pupils to celebrate what they’ve achieved with a Celebration of Champions assembly.
The Celebration of
Champions will be an
assembly like no other. Enjoy it!
This is a time for pupils to look back on all the fun activities that have been going on in school and to be proud of all that they’ve achieved.
It’s a time to thank everyone who has taken part in fundraising activities, whether through planning or running events, clearing up afterwards or simply joining in and donating money. Everyone has played their part in changing the lives of children who are just like them but who are going through a di cult time.
Finally, this is a time for pupils to take to the stage and entertain each other with singing, dancing, music, jokes and magic. And to round the whole thing o , announce how much money the school has raised!
This is your Champions of Change grand fi nale. Make it unforgettable.
CELEBRATEIN STYLE
Get started todayAnother chance for pupils to develop their
event-planning, organisational and team-
working skills. There are loads of resources
at www.bbcchildreninneed.co.uk/
championsofchange to help them plan
their Celebration of Champions.
They’ll need to decide on the entertainment –
singing, dancing, magic, jokes… Whatever they
do, it should involve as many people as possible.
Pupils should collect information about all the
fundraising activities to present at the celebration
– any budding researchers or journalists out there?
Perhaps certifi cates could be awarded on the day
for categories like most original fundraising idea,
event that raised the most or the most fun event.
If you’ve been fi lming events or taking photos,
put together a display to show o the school’s
collective fundraising e orts.

Every penny you give will go towards helping children in real need, just like Harman…
Imagine not being able to tell if something is too hot or too sharp to touch. Eight year old Harman can’t feel pain. His mum fi rst noticed this when Harman had trouble learning to walk and when he didn’t notice he was touching a hot iron. She took him to hospital where doctors discovered that he had a problem with his spine. This means that his spinal chord is tangled and he has di culty talking, eating, feeling and going to the toilet.
So when he wanted to go to a play group, Harman’s mum was worried. Then she found out about Include Me Too near their home in Wolverhampton. There, Harman can make friends, play safely and have a go at Bollywood dancing, African drumming, bowling, games and lots more. Thanks to money from BBC Children in Need, Harman and other disabled children can go on trips, have fun and explore the outside world.
THANK YOUFOR HELPINGHARMAN
We’ve been coming to Include Me
Too for three years and Harman
is so calm and relaxed here.

pays for a music therapy session to bring joy to a 6 year old girl with a brain tumour.
Just before you let them loose…make sure pupils know who they can turn to for support with their fundraising. There are at least four sources of help below, you might think of more:
Their fi rst port of call is each other – they’ll be amazed at what they can achieve together. Group work allows pupils to bounce around ideas, help each other out, pull together as a team and have a laugh!
As the school’s lead teacher for Champions of Change – reassure pupils that if they’re worried or unsure about something, you’ll always be on hand.
Family members – it’s their job to help! And there’s loads of roles they can fi ll: sponsor, baker, audience member, chau eur…
If your school has a Lloyds Bank volunteer, remind the pupils to make the most of their fundraising advice and fi nancial know-how.
