Dear East Side Family,
It has been an honor to serve our great God here at East Side Baptist Church as your pastor these past three
years. There has been so much for which to give God praise especially the many souls saved during this time.
I think of all the wonderful revival services, newcomers’ classes, and the G.R.O.W. ministry that has been very
effective involving so many others in spreading the good news.
I have often said the will of God is bigger than we bargain for but it is the safest place to be in the world. With
that said my wife and I feel that God is leading us to engage in a Church Revitalization project with a congrega-
tion in need. You know my heart is to do everything possible to reach people for Christ. We believe that we
have been equipped for such a task and ask for your prayers during these days of transition. I offer my resig-
nation as such on this day February 28th 2016. Our last Sunday will be on March 13th 2016. One of my greatest
joys will be remembering the great staff that I was privileged to work with. May God continue to bless you and
the church as you seek to advance the Kingdom for the glory of God.

Women on Missions
Kathy Meadows - Children’s Minister
In April, the Women on Missions will feed dinner to volunteers working in the Mountain Home Christian Clinic. The next meeting will be April 19, 2016 at the home of Millie Rockafellow with the program by Barbra Wike. Please join us and call the church office for more information or directions.
New non-fiction books have been added to the Library in the last cou-
ple of months. Retreat or Risk: A Call for a Great Commission Resur-
gence edited by Jedidiah Coppenger (Cop 269.2) is a work of the Southern
Baptist Convention. “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit,” Matt 28:19 HCSB. This small book tells how and why.
A book about witnessing, Organic Outreach for Ordinary People:
Sharing Good News Naturally by Kevin G. Harney (Har 288.9), will help you
develop a personal approach to sharing the good news of Jesus. This au-
thor stresses incorporating biblical practices for witnessing in your life.
R.T. Kendall in Total Forgiveness, asks if you have ever wanted to hold
a grudge, point a finger, and remember the pain. God wants you to lay it
aside because failing to practice forgiveness prevents you from enjoying
the best God has to offer you.

MY FAVORITE HYMN If I asked you to give me your favorite hymn, I am sure I would get a great variety of responses. I want to share my favorite hymn with you. Many of you may not recognize it as one of the old favorites, but it is a song about the cross and about blood. Unfortunately, this is a time when hymnals are being published that have removed all songs about the cross and blood. Too many seem to find such songs offensive. Bloody sacrifices are not a proper subject for dignified singing. But heaven has a different opinion!
Now let me admit something at the start. I have never sung this hymn, but it is still my favorite. I will not sing it until I get to heaven! But when we are in heaven, I believe this song about the blood will be the favorite of all redeemed souls in glory. So what is this hymn? Although I have never sung this hymn, I do know its lyrics. I encourage you to read them for yourself! The lyrics are recorded in Revelation 5:9. Now let me share 5 reasons I am convinced that it will be our favorite hymn in heaven.
First, it magnifies the worthiness of Jesus Christ. That is what worship is all about, it means to ascribe worth. When we worship God we ascribe worth to His Person and work. This is the context of the hymn in verses 1-8 where the hymn is introduced.
Second, this hymn shows why Jesus is worthy. He was slain. He bore our sins on the Cross of Calvary. The word indicates a vio-lent death. Why was the death of Christ so hideous? The answer is simple; our sins are hideous in the sight of God. Only the blood of a wor-thy sacrifice could offset the hideous reality of our guilt before a holy God. The sacrifice must be worthy. The sacrifice must be pure. The sac-rifice must be holy. You can join the search, but when all is said and done no one in heaven, or on earth, or under the earth will be found wor-thy except Jesus because He is the spotless Lamb of God!
Third, this hymn tells us what Jesus did. Jesus “purchased for God”. Note, this is not what Jesus tried to do; this is not what Jesus hoped to do; this is not what Jesus wished to do; this is what Jesus did! His death on the cross actually purchased our redemption!
Fourth, this hymn explains what Jesus purchased. People from all over the world. His salvation is not limited to a particular people group, but it reaches throughout the entire world. Glory to God!
Fifth, the hymn will be sung by those who have been purchased. Note the results in verse 10. All who are purchased are in heaven. They all have their reward! They will all join in singing. Hallelujah!
WEDNESDAY BIBLE STUDY HOUR, 6:00 PM IN THE HENSLEY BUILDING April begins a new Small Group Study based on the prayers of the apostle Paul called Praying with Paul. “The apostle Paul found a spiritual closeness in his fellowship with the Father that is available to all of us. Praying with Paul leads group members into the Epistles to see what Paul taught in his ‘school of prayer.’ In 8 sessions, group members will be exposed to priorities of prayer, a God-centered framework for pray-er, and practices for a more dynamic and more meaningful prayer life. Christians today can still achieve the confidence Paul enjoyed by follow-ing his life-shaping principles and searching for a deeper devotional experience.” (Quoted from the cover of the study guide Praying with Paul available to group members for $10.)
SUNDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY CLASSES We have 20 Sunday morning Adult Bible Study Classes where God’s word is taught. Richard Crawford - Missions Britney Zimmer — Student Ministry
I wanted to say a special goodbye to my church family. It has been
an incredible 7 1/2 years at East Side. My heart and mind are full of
many memories that I will forever cherish. Thank you to all those peo-
ple that have supported me, served with me, and loved me no matter
what! I have been blessed beyond measure with wonderful children,
students, and adults to work and serve with. I am sad to leave my
church family but I am excited for this new opportunity God has given
me to serve Him. My last Sunday at East Side will be April 10th.
Thank you for allowing me to serve at East Side Baptist Church. It is
a goodbye for now because one day we will be reunited in a much
better place!!! Please keep Josh, Darci, and I in your prayers as we em-
bark on this new chapter in our lives.
Blessings,
Britney Zimmer
