UNIT PLAN OVERVIEW
Essential Question:
Construct an ancient pyramid using your knowledge of the architecture, lifestyle, geography, culture and social structure of the people of Ancient Egypt.
Unit Summary:
This unit will focus on understanding the Ancient Egyptian society, as it applies to every facet of a person’s life, ranging from architecture to geography. This understanding will be based on maps, primary sources, and secondary sources. The goal will be to create a platform for students to understand all different aspects of Ancient Egyptian society.
DAY 1: INTRODUCTION
Students watch video on Ancient Egypt
They write 5 interesting facts
Class discussion over previous knowledge of Ancient Egypt
Students write down one question they still have about Ancient Egypt (exit ticket)
Students receive breakdown of how the unit stations will work
Students receive information on their overarching unit project (pyramid)
CENTER 1: AGRICULTURE/LIVING
- Get assignment.
- Go through Agriculture Powerpoint

CENTER 3: CULTURE
Students complete interactive mummification activity

What is one thing you would change about the mummification process? Why?
Students research Egyptian cultural timeline to answer the last 3 exit ticket questions:

“Which section of Ancient Egyptian culture did you research and why?”
“How are some ways that Ancient Egyptian life is similar to your life?”
“In 1000 years, what is something you do every day that archaeologists might think is weird or strange?”
Students write a paragraph discussing how Ancient Egyptian culture tied in to pyramid building.
CENTER 4: SOCIAL STRUCTURE
Students will watch the video on Ancient Egyptian social structures, and then use the resources to research a particular class.
Each student will be given 1 of 5 social classes from Ancient Egypt.
These are Pharaoh, government official, scribe, artisan, and peasant
Students will be given two websites to use for their research
They will be required to write between 1-2 pages, taking the viewpoint of the social class they were assigned to.

CENTER 5: GEOGRAPHY
- Go to website-- http://www.ancientegypt.co.uk/geography/home.html
- Read front page.
- Explore the maps.
- Go through the story multiple times in multiple ways.
- Fill out exit slip.
FINAL DAY: PYRAMID PRESENTATIONS
Students will each get 3 minutes to present their pyramid to the class.
At the end, students will vote on the top 3 presentations
Students with the top 3 presentations will be able to have lunch with the teacher if they want to
Students can talk about what influenced their pyramid design, or how the various stations helped them create their final product.
