November 2017
What an amazing day of worship and celebration we have just had. I love to be
a part of the fellowship that we as a church family have together. And the fellowship
at our Fall Festival and Reformation Celebration was fantastic. But to top it all off, we
returned home last night to read all of the cards that you all gave us for Pastor
Appreciation. This was a wonderful display of your love and appreciation and for that
I thank you all.
It is easy for me to stop and bask in the joy of experiences like yesterday. But
today is a new day and there is much to be done for the Kingdom. So let us look
forward to where God is preparing us to be the laborers for His Kingdom.
We are in a season of Thanksgiving baskets and adopt a child/senior and shoe
boxes for Operation Christmas Child. The Bible instructs us to give out of our
abundance for the sake of spreading the Gospel. Jesus said, “And whoever gives one
of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to
you, he will by no means lose his reward.” (Matthew 10:42)
We are also in a season of new ministry here at South Ashland UMC. By the
time you read this, four of our own people will be at training, learning to lead
Celebrate Recovery. And when they return home, we will be looking for lots of
volunteers to be involved in this ministry which is a biblical and balanced program
that helps us overcome our hurts, hang-ups, and habits. The CR program includes a
meal and worship and small groups. So we will need cooks and cleanup crews and
worship leaders and the list goes on.
So if you have not yet found you place of ministry here at South Ashland
UMC, more opportunities are right before you. But the call is the same; to use your
gifts and graces for the work of the Kingdom of God. And remember, we are
committed to be a place where people find healing for
their brokenness and hope for the future through the
power of the Holy Spirit. So let’s get to work!

You may say, “I don’t have any musical talent.” No problem, you don’t need to have any! To play the bell plates, all you have to know is your colors. To play the harmonica, all you have to do is breathe in and out. The music for the songs will tell you when to do this. So, join us for some fun and laughter with our leader, Skippy Simmerman.

Children’s Ministry
Voices of Praise performed in October, “Father Abraham” and “From the Day” by I Am They. The children really enjoyed both songs. All the movements for “Father Abraham” they had so much fun doing and they loved how it made Miss Kennetta and me very dizzy. I have to say that “From the Day” was their favorite. They really can belt out the chorus!!
This month I’d like to introduce you to James Highley. James is in 3rd grader at Oakview Elementary. James’ favorite song is “Grace” which is from our Seeds of Faith collection and we will be singing on November 26.
Erin
Thank you for all of the help with the Reformation
Celebration! All of the groups worked together
from Boy Scouts to Children’s Ministry and everyone in between. We appreciate it very much!
Our October Confirmation to kick off a new series was a success, thanks to a lot of help from people
who stayed the night, taught and cooked! The November 10-11 retreat looks to be just as effec-
tive! Thank you!
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I pray that you all will have a very blessed Thanksgiving full of gratefulness for everything that our Lord has done for each of us. Plans for the 2018 Costa Rica mission team are ongoing. The team has 24 members. Our church will have the following: Keith/Alicia Katterheinrich, Larry/Teresa Kirkpatrick, Matt/Kim Hart, Don/Gloria Neikirk, Damola/Kamilah/Nevaeh/Jaydah/Amorrah Asafa, Jerry Mounce, Jim Newton, and myself. Also from Ashland: Daniele/Makenna/Canaan Kibbey. From Louisville: Jim Powell, Debbie Walker, Trace Powell and Owen/Ann Dolin. It is a won-derful group of people. Will you please keep all of us in your prayers? Shown below is a portion of an e-mail that Mary sent me regarding needs. I know that it is a bad time of the year to be asking for items, but if you can help in any way either by purchasing these items or funds to purchase, the team and children of Costa Rica would be blessed. Mary always asks me to express her love and thanks for all your prayers and support:
“However, the major need for EVERY child is notebooks. The elementary school children must have the small sewn type, not spiral. Each child in the primary grades needs at least six notebooks. High school students use the spiral types. Each student must have a different notebook for every subject which means they carry eight or more notebooks. Sometimes someone needs a backpack. So we truly believe that the notebooks are the most important gift to give. You will be here a week before school starts so right away when you arrive we can go to the distributor and purchase what the students can use, first, depending how much we have to spend, and then second, for whom and how many. I will inquire of prices in late January. Before school starts the stores stock up with everything. The elementary notebooks cost about $2 each. The high school type is more, $4. You can also bring #2 pencils, erasers, pens, pencil sharpeners, crayons, colored pen-cils, rulers, paste etc. This will be a marvelous help for families. This all adds up for a family of children and youth. Have fun! God is with us! Love and prayers, Mary and all”
The feeding program at Pital continues and is serving over 200 children each month. Thank you so much for your support of this ministry. In His Love and Service Eduardo
