The Municipality of Anchorage provides six indoor recreational and fi tness pools, 5 in the Anchorage Bowl and 1 in Chugiak. Each pool offers a wide variety of programs such as open swim, lap swim, swim lessons, swim teams,

special events and water aerobics. See pages 10-11 for program details

Exercise Facilities

The Center’s main gymnasium is a college size basketball court that can also be used for tennis, volleyball, indoor soccer, and private parties. It has seating for over 200 spectators. The men’s and women’s locker rooms have their own sauna and showers. The weight training room offers a variety of weight machines, free weights, treadmills, and exercise bikes. The dance/martial arts studio has a mirrored wall, ballet bar and access to tumbling mats.

Fairview Recreation Center rents out each of its rooms to private groups for special events. Our meeting rooms are great for business seminars or birthday parties. The gymnasium can accommodate anything from a volleyball team practice to a regional basketball tournament. Our dance studio is the perfect setting for a private dance lesson or martial arts seminar.

Looking for a place to have your company picnic or activity? Consider Kincaid Park and the Kincaid Chalet. The park has hosted many activities over the years including Olympic Team Selection races for cross country skiing, the 2001 Special Olympics World Winter Games Alaska and the 2009 and 2010 USSA Cross Country Senior National Championships. The comfortable and spacious Kincaid Chalet, besides affording outstanding views, has over 12,000 square feet which can be rented for picnics, parties, weddings, receptions, barbecues, meeting and sporting events. Access to the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail is within yards of the Chalet.

Kincaid Park is 1400 acres of park land with over 40Km of trails to run, bike, walk or ski. Beautiful scenic views of Mt. Susitna, Mt. Denali, Cook Inlet and the Chugach Mountains are to be enjoyed from the park. View many bird species and wildlife in Kincaid Park, and the park is linked to the community via the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. No motorized machines allowed on trails.

Lidia Selkregg Chalet

Dr. Lidia Selkregg Chalet is in the beautiful 300 acre Russian Jack Springs Park. The park includes the Mann Leiser Memorial Greenhouse within the Municipal Greenhouse Complex, Cartee and Russian Jack Springs Softball Complexes, 2 soccer/multi use fi elds, the Girls Scouts Day Camp, tennis courts, picnic/playground areas, a 9 hole golf course, an off leash dog area, and model train museum– all laced with nine miles of bike and lighted ski trails.

Selkregg Chalet, while open to the public, serves as a meeting place for municipal classes, the First Tee Program and other special events. Additionally, it is a great place for meetings, weddings and as rental space.

Mann Leiser Memorial Greenhouse

The Municipality of Anchorage offers rustic camping opportunities right in your own back yard during the summer months for residents and out of town guests alike. Centennial Campground offers 100 camp sites, 2 groups sites (perfect for Girl Scout, Boy Scout campouts or caravans) and 6 drive –through sites suitable for either recreational vehicle or tent camping. Dry camping only. Limit of 14 night stay.

Centennial Park is located less than 15 minutes from downtown Anchorage and is close to hiking trails, bus lines and other recreational activities.

Just a 15 minute drive from downtown Anchorage, Russian Jack Springs Golf Course offers an excellent opportunity for vacationers, those just getting off of work and those wanting to play a few short rounds of golf.

Due to popular demand the golf course will be open to disc golf enthusiasts. Enjoy the wide open and long fairways! Call for tee times and prices. Members of the Anchorage Disc Golf Association will receive $3 off daily green fees. Must show valid ADGA membership along with picture ID.

The Executive nine-hole golf course features artifi cial greens, wooded fairways, beautiful scenery that includes the peaks of the Chugach and Alaska ranges plus the sur-rounding greenery and city skyline, comfortable chalet for between rounds, surrounding attractions such as the municipal greenhouse, the natural springs, bike trails and picnic areas, golf club and pull cart rentals

Adopt-A-ParkVolunteers agree to remove trash once a month and report safety hazards and concerns to Parks & Recreation. A sign is displayed in the adopted park recognizing the name or group name and the contribution they make to the park.

Adopt-A-TrailVolunteers agree to clean and maintain sections of trail. By adopting or co-adopting with another group you enhance the trail experience for residents and visitors. The group names will be posted on a sign along the trail.

Adopt-A-GardenVolunteers are in charge of planting and maintaining fl ower beds in parks, right-of-ways and medians. This volunteer opportunity lasts from June to September.

Clean & GreenGroups of community members focus on parks and trails that need special attention. These small projects promote safety and health for all park users. Necessary equipment will be provided by The Anchorage Park Foundation.

Trail WatchAs a trail user you have the opportunity to report litter, vandalism, safety hazards, suspicious activities, and crimes. Trail Watchers

set their own schedule, have a cell phone on them and report situations as needed. Trail Watch Ambassadors commit to a schedule, volunteer for special activities, and submit reports after each patrol. Sign up at www.muni.org/parks.
