Finished Measurements: (34”, 38”, 42”) at chest, (38”, 42”, 48”) at hips (width) 14” from hip to armpit, 21.5” total (length) Gauge: 22 sts x 28 rows = 4” (10 cm) Take time to check gauge! This pattern is designed with a little negative ease due to the stretchy nature of the yarn. Knit the lifted loop through the back of the stitch. M1R (Make one right slant): With left needle tip, lift the strand between the needles from back to front. Knit the lifted loop through the front of the stitch. 3 Needle Bind Off: Turning work inside out, move to 2 needles with half of work on each needle With 2 needles parallel, insert a 3rd needle knitwise into the 1st st of each needle. Row 10: Purl all sts Note: Sweater is knitted flat and seamed Back: With smaller needles and yarn held double, CO (92, 102, 112) sts, break 1 strand, and begin knitting Border Pattern flat. Continue in Stockinette st. Waist Shaping: At 3” from CO, decrease on a RS row as follows: K1, SSK, K to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1. Repeat every 6th row 4 times more (82, 92, 102 sts) Continue in Stockinette st for 7 rows. 8th row: K1, M1L, K to last st, M1R, K1. Repeat every 8th row 4 times more (92, 102, 112 sts) Continue in Stockinette st for 14” from CO, ending on WS row. Armholes: BO 5 sts on the next 2 rows (82, 92, 102 sts) BO 3 sts on the next 2 rows (76, 86, 96 sts) Note: You can BO 1st st of these rows as described in the following row to leave a nice smooth edge. BO 1 st at the next (10, 12, 14) rows as follows: Stockinette st to last st (leave unworked on needle), turn work, slip 1 more st to left-hand needle (2 sts on left-hand needle) pass 1st st over slipped st. (66, 74, 82 sts) Continue in Stockinette st, slipping 1st st of each row, for 7½” from 1st BO at armhole. Knit 12 sts, KFB, (place these 14 shoulder sts on holder). BO 3, K all sts to end. Purl 12, PFB (place these 14 shoulder sts on holder) BO 3, Purl to end BO 3 at beginning of next 2 rows Note: Remember for smooth BO in each row, you can BO 1st st as above. BO remaining neck sts. (30, 38, 46 sts) Place shoulder sts back on needle and knit (4, 6, 8) more rows of Stockinette st on each shoulder (still slipping 1st st of each row). Set aside live sts for 3 needle BO later. Front: Work as for back to armhole. BO 5, knit to end BO 5, P (41, 46, 51) sts, place on holder to be worked later, P11, PM, P to last st. Turn, BO 3. BO 1st st as before to make a smooth edge, K to first Marker, begin Left Neck Lace pattern. Continue working Left Neck Lace pattern on those sts, and AT THE SAME TIME, decrease 1 st at armhole as above for (5, 6, 7) more RS rows. After final armhole decrease, continue slipping 1st st at armhole edge, Stockinette st to Marker, Left Neck Lace pattern. Repeat lace pattern 4 times. Note: Remember the pattern decreases a st in each repeat, so move your marker over 1 at the 10th row so you have 11 sts again. BO 3 -- (BO 1st st as before to make a smooth edge), P to marker, continue Right Neck Lace pattern on those sts. AT THE SAME TIME, decrease 1 st at armhole edge as above for (5, 6, 7) more WS rows. After final armhole decrease, continue slipping 1st st at armhole, Stockinette st to marker, Right Neck Lace pattern. Repeat lace pattern 4 times Note: Remember the pattern decreases 1 st in each repeat, so move your marker over one at the 10th row so you have 11 sts again. (33, 37, 41) sts remain. Row 1: P2, K to end of row. Row 2: S1, P to end of row. BO at collar as follows on RS rows: Row 3: BO (4, 4, 5) K to end of row. Row 4 and all even rows: S1, P to end of row. Row 5 and all odd rows: BO 3 sts next (3, 5, 6) knit rows (BO 1st st as above for a smooth edge) 34” size only: Row 11: BO 2 (14 sts remain). Finishing: Use 3 needle BO to attach front to back at shoulders. Sew side seams with mattress st. I-cord edging for neck and arms: With US 7 DPNs (or 1 size larger than the needles you've been using for body of sweater), CO 3 sts. Turn the sweater inside out. Note: You will be picking up edge sts on the WS. Starting with left-hand side of the neckline pick up 1 st. Slide 4 sts to the right of the needle, K2, K2tog TBL, Pick up 1 st. Repeat to right side of neckline. After last K2tog, BO 3 remaining sts. Repeat for both arms, beginning picking up st at the front/back seam. Finishing: Weave in loose ends. Block to fit.
