Ancestral Questrelation to PAF

• Prior to summer of 1999 PAF was a DOS Program• Incline Software (writers of Ancestral Quest) gave a copy

of their source code to the LDS Church• PAF 4 and PAF 5 are slightly modified older versions of

Ancestral Quest• Most LDS users shifted to using PAF 4 and PAF 5• Ancestral Quest is a new.FamilySearch.org certified

software which overlays PAF 5.2, plus more

Page 3: Ancestral Quest’s Synchronization with nFS

Why use Ancestral Quest• Uses your existing PAF data base• Is very similar to PAF so you don’t have to learn a new

program• Organize your nFS pedigree directly from your PAF file• You can do anything in Ancestral Quest that you can do

in newFamilySearch, except Uncombine records and see the names of the people who are also working on your line.

• Jump directly to your ancestor in newFamilySearch Especially important when you have a large data base with a lot of collateral lines (1st, 2nd, 3rd cousins, aunts and uncles and their descendants, etc.

• Use the advanced focus filter features with new FamilySearch. Examples:– 1. Choosing people/families to do temple ordinances– 2. Look up temple ordinance information

The drop down menu contains a number of things that you can do. Link

finding and then storing the newFamilySearch Id. Number in your

PAF data base.
