MBE is a US Department of Defense (DOD) driven initiative to reuse the 3D CAD models and data

by all downstream stakeholders across the extended enterprise. MBE seeks to make 3D product

data as the Master across the extended enterprise.

MBE methodology captures and communicates the true design intent to all downstream

stakeholders in a CAD agnostic format, allowing even the smallest supplier to consume

complete product definition in 3D without any additional software. The industry has

significantly benefitted from using 3D CAD, but 2D drawings continue to be used as the master

data for all downstream use cases in purchasing, manufacturing, quality and aftersales service.
