Battery Test Cases - cdma2000

• Closed loop power control is used to keep the mobile at the specified power level. Currently a two second dwell period per percentage is used.

• Current Test case runs with audio.

• Harvard sentences 40% voice activity factor file is used to generate audio.

• Data activity model can be deployed as well.

Battery Test Cases - W-CDMA

• Test loopback call instead of a voice call & speaker.

• In this loopback call, we can cycle the UE's output power by turning the Downlink DPDCH on and off. This causes a change of TFC (Transport Format Combination) in the uplink which essentially causes the uplink power to vary according to the change in data rate. In the case where Downlink DPDCH is turned completely on and off, DTX (where DPCH is turned off) will occur in the uplink.

• It is suggested in the CDG specifications that a 40% on/60% off pattern is typical for a voice call.

• This is what we plan to implement (although the % will be programmable).

Why are Battery Tests Important

• Battery performance is one of the most visible performance indicators to an end user.

• The average end user probably doesn’t know the receiver sensitivity of their device, but they probably know how long the battery will last.

• End users are accustomed to several days stand-by and several hours of talk time with GSM devices.

Ancillary test in U-ATS

• Runs in the U-ATS Testdrive GUI.

• Can be run as part of a performance suite.

• Reporting functionality is the same as other test cases in Testdrive.
