INSIDE THIS ISSUE:

Want a website that works great for any classroom

for grades K-8? Go to FunBrain.com. This website focuses

upon primarily math and reading. Children

these days are “digital learners,” they learn

best with the help of a little bit of technol-

ogy. FunBrain is just that. It is full of aca-

demic games in order to enhance the chil-

dren’s learning such as Math Baseball and

Grammar Gorillas. In order to better the

children’s reading skills there are web books

and comics such as, Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Also a new addition that was added to the site was Brain

Teasers. Children will be able to easily access all of the

games and everything in which the site has to offer to them.

Not only is this website great for the children it has stuff

for parents and teachers as well. For teachers there is a

FunBrain game finder which helps to find a game to fit for

your class along with a curriculum guide, flashcards, online

grade book, and a standards finder. This site also offers

something for the children’s parents as well such as parent-

ing resources and parent-kid challenges for the games avail-

able on the website. FunBrain is an awesome website and will

not only make teaching fun for you but it will make learning

fun for your students as well!

FunBrain’s Features

FUNBRAIN!

The FunBrain website has many different features for

any teacher who is visiting this website. First, it has a FunBrain

game finder which allows you to search for games by title, key-

word, age, or subject. They have them for ages 6&under and

17&up! They also have almost every subject taught such as

math, language arts, science, history, music, geography, art,

technology, and physical education. FunBrain also has a curricu-

lum guide for teachers in order to help them find games that work best in their

classroom. Also available on the website is a standards finder for the teachers which

allows them to find standards from grades K-12 on all of the subjects listed above.

FunBrain also has printable flashcards available for the students to practice with ad-

dition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. On the teacher webpage there is a

link to mygradebook which is a web based grade book which teachers are able to work

on either from school or at home. Finally, on the FunBrain flashcards page there are

links for a math homework center, math lesson plans, and other math resources.

Example of Some of What the Website Offers FunBrain offers a online flashcard maker where you chose the integer

and addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division and they make the

cards for you so all you have to do is cut them out and learn!

Targeted Audience In the education world any teacher, student, or parent could find a use for

this website from Kindergarten all the way through 8th grade and in some aspects

even into the high school levels. There are different parts of the website for all

different types of learners and teachers. Children can learn through the academic

games available or through the web books and comics. Teachers can find educa-

tional games for their classroom, make math flashcards for their students to prac-

tice with or use their curriculum finder to find games which would be appropriate to

use in their classrooms. Using FunBrain in a classroom will allow students to learn

and a new and advanced way. Students are now digital learners and with the help of

technology their learning opportunities are endless!

Personal Reflection

As an aspiring teacher I think that the FunBrain website is a great re-

source for students, teachers, and parents to teach children in a way that they

will understand better and to integrate technology into the classroom which with

today’s generation technology is the main thing today’s student are exposed to.

When I have the opportunity to use this website during my teaching career I

would use it in multiple different ways. I would have rotations set up in my class-

room and students moving from station to station working on group work, spelling,

reading, math, and computers. When the students reached the computer station

one of their website choices to visit would be FunBrain. They could play any of

the games available on the website since they are all educational and all have to

do with reading and math primarily. The students could also read the web books

available on the site as well as Brain Teasers, the FunBlog, and the Mad Libs. I

would also use the teacher page on the website primarily the math flashcards

that the site makes for you all ready to print out. I would also use the FunBrain

game finder when I was working on a certain topic such as addition in order to

find games for the children which will help them practice with the topic such as,

Math Baseball. Overall, I think that FunBrain is a great website in order for to-

day’s teachers to integrate new forms of technology into the classroom to try to

engage their students in a new and different way and enhance their learning.
