affect on carpet performance.

• Nylon fibre’s shape can vary enormously.

• A thinner trilobal shape means:– A larger surface area to stain. – A much higher propensity to stain.– Larger “air pockets” to trap dirt. – The carpet is harder to clean– The lobes break, causing fraying and poor

appearance retention.

• Why are different yarn structures used?– Cost – Yarn is paid for by weight and not by

volume. – For a better “feel”, a yarn full of air pockets

feels a lot softer to the touch and may appear to be more desirable….

• Type 6.6 Nylon is: – Denser.– Harder to stain.– Will wear better over time.– Holds its appearance longer.
