Well, it’s really exciting for us to have you reading this! Nosy Crow is a new, independent publisher based in London, and we publish children’s books that we love. Previously, I ran Macmillan Children’s Books in the UK and then Scholastic UK Ltd, and collectively we have decades of children’s publishing experience to guide us in this exciting endeavor. Most of us are parents too, and that firsthand experience of sharing books with children informs everything we do. When faced with a new project, we always ask ourselves: Who is this for? Who is the ultimate reader? We are able to offer talented children’s authors and illustrators — both new and established — a small-scale, intimate, and personal approach to publishing their books, from helping them shape their ideas to telling the world about their work on Twitter (where we tweet as @nosycrow).

After our recent launch, we immediately found ourselves faced with an important decision: Who should we partner with in the US? We are very pleased and proud to have chosen, and been chosen by, Candlewick Press. From our first meeting, things just seemed to click. We’re both independent. We’re both committed to discovering and encouraging exciting new talent. And although Candlewick is much bigger than Nosy Crow, we felt that we were talking to people who really cared about every book that they touched. We couldn’t think of anyone better to share our books with and help us bring them to you.

We love what we do. We hope you do too.

PS — Oh, and because you may be asking, why “Nosy Crow”?

We felt that, like us, the name is distinctive, irreverent, and contemporary.

And also, crows are among the world’s most intelligent animals, found almost everywhere on Earth, robust and strong, persistent and smart, quick to learn, playful. . . and noisy!

Fiction

These books take great subjects for boys and combine them into short, bonkers, and funny stories that are incredibly easy to read. The illustrations are bold and crazy, and there’s plenty of space left on each page — together with suggestions for how to fill it — so kids can add their own drawings. The books read as hilarious, zippy stories that look a lot like novels but are terrific doodle books as well.
