Purpose of Setting…A setting can serve several different purposes. It
may create a mood, act as an antagonist, establish historical background, or supply
symbolic meaning.
Setting is valuableSetting does impact a story in a much bigger way than
one might think. The author’s ability to
establish setting, usually early in the book and
continuing throughout the story, helps the reader
create a “movie” in his/her mind
