Hurricane Irma

As I write this on Tuesday afternoon, some of

our parishioners are having trees removed from

their yards, or from up against houses, but I

have not heard of any injuries or worse. Many

households outside of Clemson, and a few

within, are without power. But when we see the

scenes of devastation from the Caribbean,

Cuba, the Keys and throughout parts of Florida

and along the Georgia and South Carolina

Coast we can count ourselves as lucky or

fortunate.

As I wrote two weeks ago about Hurricane

Harvey, Lutheran Disaster Response is an

excellent ministry to support

http://www.elca.org/Our-Work/Relief-and-

Development/Lutheran-Disaster-Response

Another link I discovered will allow you to give

online and earmark your donation for either

Hurricane Harvey or Irma.

https://community.elca.org/hurricane-relief

These donations will be routed to people who

are closest to those directly affected and can

assess the most effective use of the funds.

As we assist one another locally, please

consider a special gift to those who were

dramatically impacted that they may receive the

food, shelter and care that they need.

God’s peace & hope,

Pastor Jon

Dear Women of University Lutheran Church Words cannot express how thankful we are for your donation of children’s OR Caps. The patients, families and staff have enjoyed the new hats! The staff enjoy giving them out and seeing the big smiles on the children’s faces. We love the adorable child friendly fabric too! We appreciate the time and patience you have put into each cap. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Blessings Erin Shaffer, CCLS Specialist Pre-op Child Life

GODS WORK OUR HANDS Making 12 table decorations for Our Daily Bread

Thank you to all the hands who helped with our service projects.

Thanks to all the Quilters and their supporters

for their labors in creating 31 quilts for Lutheran

World Relief. To see the sanctuary chairs

adorned with these practical works of art and

love really accentuated the message of “God’s

work, Our Hands”. Thank you for using your

gifts and talents in this way to love our neighbor.

Gifts to Tanzania

Peter Mkumbo has returned from Tanzania. He

was able to put to good use the gifts we sent

with him. The school responsible for his

education was able to build a new bathroom.

When his home congregation heard about that

project, he was also able to build a bathroom

there. Included is a water tank for washing.

Here are a few photos. More will be posted.

A Novel Bunch Our September novel selection is Songs of Willow Frost by Jamie Ford. We will meet on Thursday, September 21st at noon in the Cry Room near the Sanctuary. Come join us! Songs of Willow Frost takes place in depression-era Seattle. It is the sad and hopeful interplay of young orphaned Chinese boy, William Eng, in search of his very probable mother, who goes by the stage name of Willow Frost.

Thank you…

…to Rachel Quesada and Peter

Mission Statement

University Lutheran is a family of faith, called by the Holy Spirit to be one ministry serving both our community

and university. The Spirit calls us to make known, by word and deed, the story of God’s love in Jesus. Our

worship together empowers us to grow as disciples as we receive, celebrate, and share God’s gifts with all of

God’s creation and created ones.
