An amendment was adopted by the State Board of Education to 19 TAC Chapter 118, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Economics with Emphasis on the Free Enterprise System and Its Benefits , Subchapter A, High School , §118.4, Economics with Emphasis on the Free Enterprise System and Its Benefits, High School (One-Half Credit), adopted in School Year 2011-2012 . The amendment adds methods of paying for college and other postsecondary education and training to the standards for personal financial literacy to align with House Bill (HB) 34, 82nd Texas Legislature, Regular Session, 2011. The amended item, 21A - F, was added to the 2012 2011 The State Board of Education in final vote approves the new Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Social Studies and, for the first time in the history of the TEKS, separates from that collective body the TEKS for Economics. Newly named Economics with Emphasis on the Free Enterprise System and Its Benefits , the course no longer has the traditional 5 social studies strands, rather, only Economics, Personal Financial Literacy, and Social Studies Skills. 2009-10 The Texas State Board of Education begins process for revising the state standards, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, for Social Studies. An amendment was adopted by the State Board of Education to 19 TAC Chapter 118, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Economics with Emphasis on the Free Enterprise System and Its Benefits, Subchapter A, High School, §118.4, Economics with Emphasis on the Free Enterprise System and Its Benefits, High School (One-Half Credit), adopted in School Year 2011-2012.
