SCRIPTURE READING Psalm 24: 1-6 (adapt.) Rev. Timothy Tutt One: The earth is God’s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it.

All: For God has founded it on the seas, and established it on the rivers. One: Who shall ascend to hill of the Holy One? And who shall stand in God’s

holy place?

All: Those who have clean hands and pure hearts, who do not lift up their

souls to what is false, and do not swear deceitfully. One: They will receive blessing from the Holy One, and vindication from the

God of their salvation.

All: Such is the company of those who seek God, who seek the face of the

God of our ancestors.

PRAYER OF OUR SAVIOR Feel free to pray in the words or language of your tradition.

Alternative titles for God include: Mother, Loving Parent, Creator . . .

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

*SCRIPTURE READING Luke 6: 20-31 Kim Christo One: Then Jesus looked up at his disciples and said:

All: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. One: Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you will be filled.

All: Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. One: Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you, revile

you, and defame you on account of the Son of Man.

All: Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, for surely your reward is great in

heaven; for that is what their ancestors did to the prophets. One: But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.

All: Woe to you who are full now, for you will be hungry. One: Woe to you who are laughing now, for you will mourn and weep.

All: Woe to you when all speak well of you, for that is what their ancestors

did to the false prophets. One: But I say to you that listen, Love your enemies, do good to those who

hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.

All: If anyone strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from

anyone who takes away your coat do not withhold even your shirt. One: Give to everyone who begs from you; and if anyone takes away your

goods, do not ask for them again.

All: Do to others as you would have them do to you.”

*CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE One: May God give us wisdom and courage for the hearing, interpreting and living out of these words.

All: Thanks be to God. Amen.

Support Our Church's Ongoing Ministry Make your pledge to the 2017 Annual Fund

I'm not a social activist nor am I an expert on social issues. I am however a proud member of the UCC and of Westmoreland Now it's our turn to address an issue that has no written referendum. This issue will require a response in many forms...some comfortable and some that may stretch some of us beyond our comfort zone.

Black Lives Matter. Absolutely, no question. Recently, as a member of the Governance Council, I was asked to consider placing a banner with those words on our church building and...I paused.

I was ashamed at my hesitation and had to sort it out. What was I thinking? I don't really know what it means. Am I trying so hard to do something that I'm simply "checking the box"? What does that banner say about my church? About me? About being a witness for social justice?

All good questions and ones I found my Governance Council colleagues also wrestling with. I took comfort in knowing that I was not alone in my confusion, or lack of full understanding. The one thing we agreed on is that the faith community has to do something at this juncture. Being a member of the Westmoreland community makes it possible for me to reach out and to act.

–--Gary Walbridge You make a difference. Westmorelanders are generous in giving to the Children’s Offering, the Capital Campaign and special denominational collections. Please be as generous as you can in your support of the annual fund at Westmoreland. You may pledge to the annual fund by returning the pledge card or by pledging online at www.westmorelanducc.org.

Go and do the same. Luke 10:37
