Since early 2007 Building and Construction Authority of Singapore (BCA) has adopted a three-stage testing regime on imported aggre-gates to determine the quality of aggregates imported from overseas sources. Since beginning, Admaterials has provided imported aggre-gate testing for the following tests as required by BCA.

Large-scale land reclamation has been undertaken in different parts of Singapore since the 1960s. We started our business by doing the recla-mation sand testing since 2008. We provide the following reclamation sand testing:

Petrographic examinations of concrete are typically performed when problems arise during construction phase or premature failure of an existing concrete structure occur. Petrographic examinations are also often performed as part of a condition study to determine if a concrete structure needs to be replaced or if it can be rehabilitated.

Our concrete petrography experts can assist you with the investigation the following hardened concrete/aggregate parameters:

Petrographic examinations may be performed on concrete aggregates for a number of reasons. However, most of the reason or objective is to characterize the rock type, name, and its suitability for use as concrete aggregate.

Some of the examples are:• Determination of the amount of a given constituent (ie. pyrite, chert, coal, shale) present in an aggregate sample• Determination of constituents that may be susceptible to alkali-silica reactions in concrete.• Identification of constituents that may be susceptible to pop-out distress when used for concrete in freeze/thaw environments.

ANALYSISINSTRUMENTAL

Admaterials has advanced state-of-the-art analytical testing instruments for a wide range of pur-poses from material identification and characterization to quality control monitoring. We have extensive experience of analysing a wide range of materials in surface analysis, composition and contamination measurement, trace elemental analysis and microscopy that is able to help you to understand well the properties of your materials.

X-ray diffraction (XRD) is a powerful non-destructive technique for characterizing crystalline materials. X-ray diffraction peaks are produced by constructive interference of a monochromatic beam of x-rays scattered at specific angles from each set of lat-tice planes in a sample. The peak intensities are determined by the distribution of atoms within the lattice. Consequently, the x-ray diffraction pattern is the fingerprint of periodic atomic arrangements in a given material. A search of the standard da-tabase of x-ray diffraction patterns enables quick phase identi-fication for a large variety of crystalline samples.

Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis provides precise specific surface area evaluation of materials by nitrogen multilayer adsorption measured as a function of relative pressure using a fully automated analyser. Barrett-Joyner-Halenda (BJH) analysis can also be employed to determine pore area and spe-cific pore volume using adsorption and desorption techniques. This technique characterises pore size distribution independent of external area due to particle size of the sample. Admaterials is equiped with Micromeritics TriStar II for this analysis.

We are equipped with elemental analyzer which analyses Nitrogen according to the DUMAS combustion principle and measures simultaneously Nitrogen and Total Carbon from a single analysis. The Inorganic Carbon is measured by Acidi-fication of the sample. The Organic Carbon is calculated by difference (TC-IC) or measured as NPOC after pretreatment by acidification of the sample. The analyzer provides fast, accurate and low level analysis for these parameters in applica-tions such as soil & plant, sludges & sediments, animal feed & grain, food, malt, fertilizer etc.

CARBON & NITROGEN ANALYZER

Pyrolysis gas chromatography (Py-GC) allows the analysis of small amounts of polymeric samples in a wide variety of forms including insoluble and composite materials without pretreatments and provides unique information that oth-erwise cannot be obtained. Py-GC is a very useful and powerful analytical technique for polymer characterization. One of the application is determination of silane concentration of the silane treated concrete for quality control of surface protection.
