An Administrator's Responsibilities in Your School's Mentor Program 2019-20 Assign Mentors Work in conjunction w/Lead Mentor to consider personalities & schedules of mentors-mentees assign formal mentors ASAP formal mentors to all 0-experienced 0-experienced late hires also matched with formal mentors ensure a professional, positive mentoring relationship develops between mentor-mentee Select Lead Mentor teacher-leader w/formal mentor training & continuing contract mentoring experience evident communication skills desire to impact mentors & novice educators able to provide professional learning to new hires can attend 2 full day meetings during school day Promote Growth ensure working conditions that maximize success for new hires require attendance for novice educators at monthly Educator Support Sessions (ESSs) that are listed in ERO encourage mentor-mentee observations and reflections as peer observations and visits are growth-producing opportunities monitor journal voucher (JV) submission to Office of Professional Learning within 40 days of observation in order to be reimbursed for mentor-mentee-lead mentor observation and co-teaching substitutes Maintain an EST participate in your Educator Support Team (EST), which might be your Leadership Team talk about your 0-experienced needs & needs of new hires w/experience EST meets several times/year Communicate Often With Lead Mentor about incoming teachers, including late hires mentor-mentee matches and their effectiveness professional learning curriculum for monthly Educator Support Sessions (ESSs) With Mentors about mentoring with fidelity importance of mentoring Recognize Excellence Consider nominations for Mentor Program Awards, available Spring 2020 Lead Mentor of the Year Mentor of the Year Educator Support Team of the Year Consider nomination for New Teacher of the Year award, available Summer 2020 FOR PLANNING PURPOSES PLEASE NOTE THAT Mentors will be invited to a 1/2 day learning opportunity with a guest speaker on October 14, 2019 (they will select morning or afternoon) Lead Mentor full-day meetings are November 19, 2019 and February 6, 2020. Mentor Program Awards will be presented on Tuesday, May 5, 2020.
