The following instructions serve as a helpful guide as you assemble your AM-20 tryke. Below lists

the tools you will need in order to perform this task:

10mm, 13mm, 22mm, 9/16” Sockets and/or Wrenches

Socket Wrench

Extender Arm for Socket Wrench

5mm and 6mm Hex/Allen Wrenches

Phillips Screwdriver

Cutting Pliers

Step 1:

Lift Boom and connect the Boom’s Brace to Front Fork Assembly with a 6mm Hex and 13mm

Wrench. Tighten accordingly but please do not overtighten.

Step 2:

Attach Rear Deck with the 4 large bolts

found with your parts. Be sure to install

washers, followed by 14mm nuts. The

upper bolts found on top will need to be

tightened with a 5mm hex and 13mm

wrench. Note: Rear hub is on left side of

tryke.

Page 4: AmTryke AM-20 Hand and Foot Cycle #50-HFC-0610

Step 3:

Place rear wheels on Rear Deck. Make sure the Spacer (silver in color) is found on the left axle—

The Spacer helps prevent your left wheel from sliding side-to-side on the axel shaft. The Spacer is

already in place on tryke prior to unboxing, but double-check as it could have possibly slid off

during assembly. Slide wheel in place followed by a washer and large 22mm nut—tighten

accordingly with your Socket Wrench or Crescent. Tighten until snug and then back nut off by ½

turn. If wheels are overtightened, bearings will grind and make noise.

Step 4:

Place wheels on tryke. Directional arrows are found on each tire and should always point

towards the front end of the tryke. The front wheel will appear different as it will house plastic

tabs covering the wheel hub. Please be sure the Quick-Release Lever is featured on the right

hand side of tryke. Slide Quick-Release Lever inside front wheel hub with Spring in place—follow

the connection by installing the second spring on left side, followed by the nut (black in color). You

can make use of the quick-release to torque while you are tightening the nut by hand—please

tighten carefully and do not overtighten.

Step 5:

Install Chain—foot cranks to rear hub. Feed chain through the protective Chain Tubing. Keep in

mind it will need to loop around the Rear Hub (found at rear deck) and back into the second tube

towards the foot crank chain ring on left side.

Page 6: AmTryke AM-20 Hand and Foot Cycle #50-HFC-0610

7/17/2015 N:\AmTryke\Manuals and Instructions\AM-20

Step 6:

Finish feeding chain through second

Chain Tube—making sure chain is

aligned correctly over Rear Hub. If you

are experiencing difficulties in feeding

chain through protective tube, you can

use thin twine/string and/or fishing line

to help you pull the chain through.

Step 7:

Assemble Master Chain Link. Before you do, please leave enough slack to slip chain over Rear

Hub. Once you have the chain resting on Chain Ring (front left side of tryke), you can turn Crank

Arms forward to help slip the chain onto Rear Hub—one solid rotation should be enough to slip

chain over the Hub and Chain Ring—completing the loop.

Step 8:

Install Chain—hand cranks to foot cranks.

Loosen Collar Stem with a 5mm Hex. Slide

Handlebar Stem down—this gives you

enough slack to slip the chain over the

Chain Ring (right side). Once the chain is

in place, pull the Handlebar Stem back up

and retighten Collar Stem hex bolts. Be

sure Handlebar Stem is aligned with Front

Fork to straight ahead position.

*Please note: If you anticipate the need to

lower handlebar stem downward for rider,

you will need to disassemble the Master

Chain Link and remove the appropriate amount of links. We recommend contacting your nearest

bicycle mechanic for this adaptation.

Step 9:

Loosen Front Fork Steering Bar with 6mm hex (located on top). It is vital that you do not

completely remove this bolt—only loosen so that you can expose the etched/dashed lines on

Steering Bar. You should stop pulling upward at this point and focus on aligning the bar and

retightening. Attach Steering Rod to Front Fork Assembly to the Boom via 5mm hex and 13mm

wrench.

Step 10:

Four Thick Washers should

be placed on top of the Seat

Support. It is important to

note that these washers

MUST be in place in order to

slide seat forwards and

backwards—once fully

assembled. We recommend

installing rear bolts first—this

helps hold seat in place as

you install the front bolts.

Both sets require a 5mm Hex

and 13mm Wrench to tighten

properly. The pictures below

help illustrate this process.

Page 11: AmTryke AM-20 Hand and Foot Cycle #50-HFC-0610

Step 11:

Attach both Handles

and Pedals. Please

pay attention to letters

found on inside bolts

of both handles and

pedals—each bolt

indicates where the

handle/pedal needs to

be (left or right).

Handles/Pedals are

mounted onto the

hand/pedal cranks.

The right hand/pedal

tightens clockwise

and the left

counterclockwise.

Hand thread until you

are certain they are

threaded properly and

then use the

Stainless Steel

Wrench you were provided with in your box. Using the 15mm end, tighten securely.

Step 12:

Install your Seat Support Posts. There are two sections of posts. The longer of the two needs to

be installed on the Rear Deck. The shorter bar will connect to the Seat Back. Slip shorter bar

over the longer sections and tighten with a 9/16” socket and 5mm Hex. Align clip holes at the

desired location—this depends on the rider’s level of comfort. Finish by inserting Safety Clips at

desired locations. If you happen to find your seat back moves freely, then you need to double

check your Safety Clips—making sure they are aligned properly with the clip holes.

Step 13:

Attach Loading Brake—can be installed on either

right or left fender brackets on the rear deck. First

tighten bottom bolts with 5mm Hex and center it

above the rear tire or left; again depending on the

rider’s comfort level. You may find the Loading

Brake rests higher up, and when engaged, does not

reach the tire. To adjust this, you will need to

loosen the two silver nuts with a 10mm wrench.

Slide the Loading Brake down to about 2” so that

the brake rests right above tire. When engaged, the

brake should rest firmly against the selected tire;

slightly pushing it inward.

Page 14: AmTryke AM-20 Hand and Foot Cycle #50-HFC-0610

Step 14:

Assemble Brake and Front Reflectors found in your parts container. Screw both brake and front

reflectors at designated sections (as shown below) with a Philips Screwdriver. Next, install Wheel

Reflectors by carefully, yet firmly, pushing the white plastic tabs into the center of reflector and

desired spoke.

Page 15: AmTryke AM-20 Hand and Foot Cycle #50-HFC-0610

Step 15:

If needed, insert the Steering Pin into the front fork tube from the side. Install the adhesive hook

strip to the frame to keep the steering pin secure from loss. Three steering positions are available:

Top position: Locks steering straight; Lower position: limits steering to 20 degrees in either

direction; No pin: free steering.

Jiggle the front wheel assembly as you push the pin into the hole and through the other side of the

fork tube. The pin should insert all the way to the split ring to be correctly seated. Note: You may

find it desirable to limit steering so the rider can concentrate on learning the pedal motion first.

Step 16:

Apply Foam Cushion to your seat and inflate all tires—keeping in mind psi pressure, which

should range between 40-65 psi (see tire wall). Use a tire inflation gauge so you do not over

inflate or damage your tubes and/or tires.

Step 17:

Lastly, inspect and tighten all aspects of your work (if needed). Before riding, double-check the

Handlebar Stem and Steering Rod and make sure it is aligned with the front tire. This keeps the

alignment straight and in order. Once you feel everything is in place, have fun riding your new AM-

20 Hand and Foot Tryke!!
