Engineered Products

The Engineered Products Division "Melting & Casting" was founded as part of a strategic reorganisation, with the aim of reacting even more flexibly to market demands and improving the customer orientation of our business. Our customers are producers of steel and nonferrous metals, casting machine builders and maintenance companies throughout the world.

The continuous casting of steel has seen major technological improvements over the past decades. This has led to considerable increases in productivity and product quality necessary to ensure survival in today's highly competitive environment. The Engineered Product Division of KME was substaintially involved in the improvements achieved.

Example: Tube mould – change of casting dimensions

For changes of casting dimensions, KME can supply the new copper tubes, including parabolic taper design, with the most suitable Cu materials and coatings.But there is more we do:– new water jackets– flanges– foot rolls– spray rings– mould housing modifications– strand modifications– secondary cooling adjustmentsWorking with KME high quality supplies are guaranteed.

Example: Bloom mould – change from plates to tubes

Casting blooms with tubes has many advantages over plates, especially in the maintenance area. KME has completed many projects carrying out the complete work changing bloom moulds from mould plates to mould tubes, including all the modifications to the existing mould housing and supplying new Cu mould tubes. Alternatively, with our new ATM design you can use copper mould tubes by using your mould housing without any change.

Example: Slab mould – use of electro-magnetic devices

Electro-magnetic braking or stirring in the mould is current state of the art technology which is used more and more. The KME “ASM” design is the optimum solution to improve mould performance, especially in existing casters. The unique thin Cu plate design, with variable adapter plate materials gives the best conditions for the performance of the mould, and it gives the added benefit of the optimum conditions for the electro-magnetic fields. In addition this maximises the available space to install the electro-magnetic devices with the existing mould housing, overall the best solution.
