Every individual at The Foundation for Revitalisation of Local Health Traditions (FRLHT) understands the importance of traditional systems in a rapidly changing India, and is committed to sharing their knowledge and building awareness.

Powered by like-minded individuals and supported by the Indian government at every level, this organisation documents, conserves, assesses and revives India’s native medicinal plants.

The Ministry of Science & Technology recognises FRLHT as a scientific and research organisation. The Ministry of Environment and Forests has designated FRLHT a National Centre of Excellence for medicinal plants and traditional knowledge.

The Foundation for Revitalisation of Local Health Traditions (FRLHT) is a registered Public Trust and Charitable Society in Bangalore.

❉ FRLHT coordinates projects for the conservation of medicinal plants in 12 states in India.

❉ Under the in situ component of this project a network of 87 Medicinal Plant Conservation Areas (MPCAs) and 6 Medicinal Plant Development Areas (MPDAs), covering a wide range of ecological diversity and altitude ranges, have been set up.

❉ The ex situ conservation programme comprises the establishment of a chain of 15 ethno-medicinal forest gardens called Medicinal Plant Conservation Parks (MPCPs).

Towards saving India's traditional medical heritage, FRLHT initiated a programme for conservation and the sustainable utilisation of medicinal plants.

Amruth Garden Introduction

In 2002, FRLHT set up Amruth Garden as a ‘Knowledge Park’, to provide a visual introduction to several hundred species of medicinal plants from various bio-geographical regions across India. Our aim: to create public awareness of the resources that fuel our local and traditional systems of medicine, and therefore continue their practice.

This Garden accommodates over 1000 native species, covering 350 genera and 110 families. It also houses over 300 species of in Hortus Malabaricus, recognised as one of the earliest records of traditional knowledge.

Home Herbal Garden Introduction

FRLHT believes that home remedies hold promise for self-reliance in primary health care for millions of households in India, thus realising the potential of ‘People’s

Health in People’s Hands’ and ‘Health for All’ in the near future.

Awareness programmes are conducted for schools, colleges, residential associations and women’s spiritual groups. People learn about plants that can be grown and used for primary health care, such as skin and hair care, stress, diabetes, child care, digestive disorders, cough & cold and for revitalisation.

Institution Herbal Garden Benefits

Just as maintaining a Home Herbal Garden is good for the individual, it is especially

important to note the marked improvements in employees when they are exposed

to greenery in general, and medicinal plants in particular.

❉ Institutionsbenefitfromplanting verges, flowering hedges and climbers

that are native, and so require less maintenance.

❉ They also reduce noise pollution, and contribute to cleaning up the

environment.

❉ Not only do these plants have aesthetic appeal, but medicinal plants also

contribute to greater attention spans and levels of concentration.

❉ Employees that regularly come into contact with plants develop positive,

problem-solving attitudes, and higher sensory perception.

Testimonial

TO WHOM SO EVER IT MAY CONCERN We have worked with FRLHT when we commissioned them to do our landscaping. Our experience has been fantastic. Ours being the first 100% eco resort, we want to ensure that we did everything completely differently, including our landscaping. This is where FRLHT stepped in and were able to understand our concept completely and come back to us with recommendations on what to do in a very clear manner. The result has been very good. Every single guest who comes to our resort is appreciative of the wok done by FRLHT. The most important aspect is that FRLHT has a very good team of dedicated and sincere workers. I recommend FRLHT strongly to anyone wanting landscaping services with a difference. I wish FRLHT every success in their projects. Nursery Introduction

In 2002 FRLHT established a nursery, when no such facility existed for medicinal plants. This is the only nursery that handles 200 species with authentic identity.

❉ The seedlings are raised and stored in the conventional way as well as using the root trainer technology.

❉ It is 100% organically developed.❉ The seedlings are maintained in different age groups for different planting

purposes. ❉ The nursery has mist chambers for propagation ❉ The nursery has shade houses for special indoor plants.
