The mission of The Rhodes School is to develop a crew that produces critical thinkers with the character to lead.

If you are going to make changes to your child’s transportation for the day, please do so no later than 1:00pm. Call Mrs. Bostic in the main office at 832.962.8181.

Students are not allowed to use their cell phones during the school day. If your child brings one to school, please make sure he/she knows to keep the phone turned off and out of sight.

Dismissal is at 3:20 p.m. with the exception of Early Dismissals ( 2nd—5th Fridays). Homework started on Monday, August 29th. Please check your child’s backpack/folder daily.

For the safety of our students, please remain in your vehicles during drop off and pick-up times. If your child is not picked up by 3:35 p.m. they will be sent to Crayon Club as a drop-in student. Crayon Club charg-

es a $25.00 fee for drop-ins. School doors will not open prior to 7:10 a.m. for students who are not enrolled in the Crayon Club. If students

arrive before 7:10am, they will be sent to Crayon Club, treated as a drop in student and assessed the fee. Please assure that your child adheres to the Rhodes School uniform policy. Read, read, and read some more! Students should bring a grade/reading level appropriate book every day.

English Language Arts & Reading (Ms. Ogden): Third, Fourth, and Fifth Graders will be reviewing the skills of good readers. They will be discussing and analyzing characters, plot elements and the setting. In addition, they will be making predictions and connections to the text. Students know that Good Readers think about their thinking, so they will dig deep to ensure they understand their reading.

Math (Mr. Buyckes): In Mr. Buyckes Math Class, where math is music to my ears, the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will be rounding numbers, decimal place value using money and mental math.

Science and Social Studies (Ms. Jackson): In Ms. Jackson’s Science Class, MATTER is what matters. Students are studying the properties of matter. Students are working to measure, test, record physical properties, compare/contrast physical properties, and classify.

NOTICE: Students should begin thinking about Science Fair Projects. The first assignment is due on Wednesday, September 28th (see Science Fair packet, sent home on Monday). Please review the packet with your child to under-stand the process students are expected to complete, determine needed materials and identify remaining submission dates. The final project must be turned in on October 31, 2016. This project is a major class grade.

Last week, TRS-SE elected its very FIRST student council representatives. Many thanks to all the students who participated in the election process, either by campaigning or voting. Congratulations to the newly elected officials and classroom representatives! Finally, “hats off” to all the parents/family members for your encouragement, assistance and support!! If your child was elected to Student Council, please continue to talk to and work with them to help them understand the importance of their positions. This is the FIRST STUDENT COUNCIL for the southeast campus! These students have made history!! We are so very proud of them already and look forward to all the great things they will accomplish this year.
