USA: JUSTICE FOR ALBERT WOODFOX AND HERMAN WALLACE DECADES OF ISOLATION IN LOUISIANA PRISONS MUST END

Dear Governor Bobby Jindal,

Albert Woodfox and Herman Wallace have been held by the Louisiana

Department of Corrections for nearly four decades in conditions which

Amnesty International believes violate international human rights

treaties to which the USA is a party.

Throughout their prolonged isolation, they have been confined to small

single cells for 23 hours a day without access to work or rehabilitation

programs. Lawyers report that both men are suffering from serious

health problems caused or exacerbated by their years of confinement.

During all this time, they have been denied any meaningful review of

the reasons for their isolation.

I am writing to urge you to take immediate steps to remove Albert

Woodfox and Herman Wallace from close confinement and to ensure

that their treatment complies with the USA’s obligations under

international standards and the US Constitution.

Yours sincerely,
