It is learnt that under the Indo-Pakistan trade agreement export of iron and steel to Pakistan is permitted. Political circles in West Bengal felt that an important commodity like steel should not be exported to Pakistan at this critical stage of Indo-Pakistan relations. They, therefore, urged the Government of India to stop export of steel to Pakistan. In West Bengal public opinion is always for restoration of harmony and peace with East Pakistan.
