ArifRn first s e n d the DBP as a tanslator in 197 1. Seven years later he became senior editor in chaFge of sdence boob. When the DBP set up its Copyright Unit in 1979, he was appointed as m t alficer, and later he was posted to Sabah as director of the DBP's branch. In 1984 he was the head of Textbook Division of the DBP.

Mfan has visited several publishing houses and university presses in the United Khgkm, USA, Cauadaand Hong Kong under the IDRC-PEPET (Malaysian Hjgher Learning Publication Committee) . He was the secretary general of PEPET fmm 1986 to 1991. He has also conducted several courses for editors on c o p m t , pub- and editing.

Apart from his involvement in pubushingactivities, Arifan has written several
