Lorelei Submersible General Description The Ocean Pearl SEAmobile model allows trained professionals to operate the vehicle from within the MPV Cabin to a maximum depth of 230 feet in water temperature of 100 DegF, and to a maximum depth of 300 feet in water temperature of 75 DegF. Furthermore, the vessel can be operated by a trained diver from the external pilot station to a maximum recreational diving depth of 100 feet with two passengers in the MPV cabin.

The general design philosophy is to introduce an underwater vehicle with both exceptional safety characteristics and visibility. This is accomplished by using industry accepted design and construction techniques and readily available hardware items. The Ocean Pearl submersible has many safety features incorporated in the concept, design, and technical standards. Each of these is very important in producing a totally safe, comfortable and enjoyable submersible. In addition, simplicity of operation, ease of maintenance and long term maintainability are major design issues.

The cabin opens as a clam shell and allows for easy entry and exit for the occupants. The sealed cabin is equipped with a full life support system where scrubbers remove the carbon dioxide, oxygen is replenished at a controlled flow, and the environment is monitored by various analyzers.

In surface mode, the flotation system permits the craft to float high above the water line with a freeboard of over 30 inches. When the surface flotation is fully deflated the craft remains slightly positively buoyant and will only submerge when driven downwards by its vertical thrusters.

Underwater, the submersible remains horizontal at all times and does not roll nor pitch. The buoyancy and balance of the craft is static.

All three electric propulsion thrusters are fixed and either push or pull depending on the direction of rotation of the propellers. Depth control is achieved using the vertical thruster. Piloting the craft is via a joystick in the cabin.

At the end of the dive the flotation bladders are re-inflated such that the craft floats back on the water surface and the cabin can be opened. The main active systems of the craft are:
