Never Too Late to Join Chancel Choir

Listen friends, we know that the single BIGGEST objection to signing up for the choir is that you simply don't have enough time in your schedule. It's tough to commit to weekly rehearsals and ALL the other things. That's why we want to invite you to join the choir for a short period of time--a Choir Trial Period, if you will. Lent is a PERFECT time to "try out" the choir. ALL age groups are welcome. Commit to the Choir Trial Period. It ends March 25. Practice is from 7:30--8:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. This is a perfect way to get to sing with others and lead in worship without the long-term commitment.

UMW OPPORTUNITY

Have you been interested in UMW activities but unable to participate because your schedule doesn’t work? We have an opportunity for you! On Saturday, April 4th, our church will host the Conference Laity Day with the Bishop. UMW has been offered the opportunity to raise some extra money for our mission fund by serving morning refreshments and lunch to the 125-150 guests who will be coming from all over Iowa to our church that day. We’ll need people to make and/or help serve some tasty treats such as coffee cake or muffins in the morning and also people to help prepare and/or serve and clean up lunch. If you’d like to bake, prep, serve or clean up, please contact Carol Miller (515-290-3843). This is an amazing opportunity for us to welcome people from outside our walls into our church and raise some funds for our mission efforts locally and around the world. We hope you’ll take advantage and help welcome our brothers and sisters from around the conference.

Practices for Good Physical Health During This Time of Year:

-If you are not feeling well, please stay home and join us through our livestream at www.bit.ly/amesfirstumclivestream

-Wash your hands frequently and for a minimum of 20 seconds with soap and under running water.

-Cough or sneeze into your elbow or tissues. Immediately dispose of the tissue and wash hands.

-When Passing the Peace, try out a new way (folded hands, peace sign), and ask before hugging or shaking hands.

Spiritual and Physical Health are in our DNA as United Methodists. John Wesley wrote extensively not only about spiritual health but also of physical health and called it a mark of Methodist distinction.

2020 FUMM ANNUAL AUCTION FUN(D) NIGHT UMM

What’s Happening?

Enjoy an indoor picnic by the Appalachia Service Project (mission project) participants. It will be held on April 18

th, from 5:30–6:30 p.m.

Free-will offering.

The auction will follow from 6:45-8:45 p.m. with great fellowship and a great variety of auction items. Our goal this year is $12,000.

Who do the auction items come from? YOU: friends and family of OUR church.

Young families are you unable to make it because you don ’t have a sitter? No worries! Babysitters will be available during the auction!

What can you donate and buy? Items in good condition such as: furniture, antiques, jewelry, tools, local art work, dinners, baked goods, frozen foods, trips, services, ISU activity tickets or other recreational activities and always fresh produce.

Not into auctions? As a special service: if you can ’t or don’t want to attend the auction but would like to place a bid on an item, we can bid for you. Provide your name, item(s) and a maximum bid. Place this information in an envelope marked Fun(d) Night Auction, and send/bring it to the office.

You may ALSO leave a bid or cash donation at the church office. They will make sure it gets passed on to the UMM.

Why do the United Methodist Men sponsor an annual Auction Fun(d) Night?

A minimum of $1000 will help sponsor the ASP program. A majority of the proceeds will help to fund the tuck pointing on the church. To have FUN and enjoy great FELLOWSHIP! What else do I need to know?

If, you have an auction item to donate: complete, detach and return the form to the church office or place it in the collection plate.

The order of auction items will be determined by the order in which they are received. An updated list of auction items will be in the weekly bulletins.

NOON - Wednesday, April 15th

, is the deadline for submitting the forms for items/services for the auction. Please avoid submitting garage sale items.

Items may be dropped off at the church on Thursday (16th

) or Friday(17th). Please, not before. If help is needed to deliver your donated items to the church, contact Dean Sampson at 515-509-7932.

AFFIRMATION OF WELCOME

As a community of the people of God, we are called

to minister to ALL people of the world, knowing that the

world is often an unloving place, a place of alienation and

brokenness. Christ calls us to reconciliation and

wholeness, and we are challenged by the Gospel to be

agents of healing within our society.

We stand in affirmation with the Apostle Paul that

“in Christ there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither

slave nor free, there is neither male nor female.” ALL are

ONE IN CHRIST. We at Ames First UMC acknowledge

that this reconciliation encompasses ALL within the

community of faith who exhibit differences in race,

gender, and ethnicity, as well as age, culture, physical

ability, educational level, economic status, personality,

marital status, and sexual orientation.

In response to the often hostile social climate with

respect to diversity within our society and the resulting

feelings of alienation from the Church, we wish to make

known our caring and concern. It is for this purpose that

we affirm the following:

ALL persons share the worth that comes from being

unique individuals created by God;

ALL persons are welcome within the membership of

this congregation upon making an affirmation of faith;

and,

ALL persons are encouraged and expected to share

in the sacramental and general life of this congregation as

members of this church.
