Legion First Vice Vibes I spoke too soon last month. Since making the 50% goal, only 8 renewals have come in. Renewals are our lifeblood-please renew now. The Early Bird period ends on the 11th, and the Early Bird Dinner will be that evening from 5-7 PM. A new section has been added to the two parts of the card that you don’t see. While the renewal notice asks for email and phone numbers, the new section also has blocks for branch of service and birthdays. It is amazing how many members’ branch of service is blank. Please include your branch of service on your renewal card. If not done, provide your DD214 with your 2018 renewal. You can renew online by visiting www.legion.org/renew. You can also register for the Automatic Annual Renewal Program. The Post cannot process credit card payments-we send them to Department. You must include your credit card number and expiration date. You can only Pay Up For Life online and the $100 discount is still in effect. Just visit legion.org, search for PUFL offer and see what it would cost you. Post dues are $40 for ages 59 and younger, $35 during the Early Bird period (July 1-Nov 11), $32 for 60 and older. Our 3-year renewals are $100 for 59 and younger and $90 for 60 and older. If you pay online to national or by credit card, you will be charged $40-national only recognizes our official dues. You can only get the discounted rates by paying to the Post utilizing the renewal notice and paying $32 or $35. Clarence Hill

AUXILIARY PRESIDENT’S PROSE Hello Ladies. I want to thank everyone who attended the Witches Brew and provided dishes and also for donatios to the kids’ party, both were a great success. We have our steak nights on the 3rd and 17th, and we serve food on Tuesday trivia night, if you’re able to come help or can cook on the grill, it would be appreciated. The Auxiliary will be hosting the Legion Birthday Party on Saturday the 18th starting at 6 PM. Our next monthly meeting will be on the 13th at 8 PM, I would really like to see more of our great Auxiliary Ladies attend the meetings, the more volunteers, ideas, suggestions and input we have, the more activi-ties, functions and fun we can plan on doing during the year. Our District meeting will be at Keystone Heights 202 on the 12th.

We ask that you DO NOT USE the Handicap parking spaces for overnight parking.

All kitchen workers (lunches, Friday steak crews, Saturday dinners, Tuesday/Thursday sandwiches) are volunteers who depend on tips. Please remember to tip the kitchen workers.

We have Bingo on Monday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 and have a progressive lucky ball jackpot. We could use some volunteers. The Riders are serving burgers, hot dogs, French fries and specials. Come on out and have some fun. We conduct Bingo every Tuesday and Thursday at 2 PM also with a progressive lucky ball jackpot.

We need a backup caller for our bingo days. It takes about 1 1/2 hours. Please see Liz if interested.

Pass the Trash is Wednesday night at 7 PM. Participation is enthusiastic and is increasing. Come early to get a seat at the bar. If you would like to deal, please let me know. We need help.

MEAL SERVICE We ask your cooperation in not bringing in or ordering outside food during times someone is serving food. Remember, they are donating their time and effort to prepare, serve and clean up. The meals are fund raisers for our various programs. If you do not wish to buy the meal being served, please eat before you come to the Post or wait until the meal is done.

When you sign in a guest, they must leave with you. We have Legion, Auxiliary & SAL shirts for sale.

The pool tournaments continue their success. We will continue the tournament twice a month. Tournaments will be November 11th and 25th at 6 PM. We will have karaoke on the 11th and the 25th. Don’t forget our bands every Friday.

As a reminder, the bartenders’ priority is serving drinks to customers at the bar and in the line. If you wish to be served, use the waitress station-do not stand at the end of the bar or between people sitting at the bar. If you want to redeem or buy a ticket for any machine, you will have to wait until the bartender finishes with drinks. The Post has 72 hours to pay out on the machines and the bartenders cannot pay tickets of $500 or more. You are limited to redeeming 5 tickets a day. If the bartender runs out of money, you may have to return later.

We serve lunch Monday—Friday from 11 AM to 1 PM.

With the holidays approaching, the sign up for the dart league will be delayed until after the new year for the Thursday night dart league. You can let me know if you are interested by coming in or calling me at 234-2692. The Adult Halloween Costume Contest will be at 9 PM on the 28th.

Legion Riders First I want to thank all the members that helped to make our Raffle a success, from ordering tickets; selecting locations to sell tickets; setting up the rides, announcements and flyers; and lastly selling the tickets, especially Al Yardley who sold a significant number of tickets one of which was the winner. The prizes and check have been delivered and all is good. The ZOMBIE Ride as always was a good time, how do some of you sleep at nights based on the designs you elected to have done, well I hope. We have once again been asked to form a flag line for Veterans Day ceremony at the Beaches Veterans Memorial Park on Nov 11th, the ceremony starts at 0900 so be here at 0830 to line up. Also for the months of Nov/Dec we are selling our old stock of ALR shirts, etc., for half price to help reduce inventory. Our next meeting will be on Saturday the 4th at 9 AM with an E-Board at 8:30 AM. Hope to see you all there as always.

Kudos and Special Events

We are assisting the Lions Club Recycle for Sight program. If you have old glasses or frames, please bring them to the Post and put them in the box by the door.

We are assisting the Fraternal Order of Police Atlantic/Neptune Lodge 107 in their annual cell phone collection drive to benefit victims of domestic violence in Duval County. Please bring in your old cell phones and put them in the box by the door.

From the Historian I am still seeking inputs for the Post scrapbook. I need your help in filling it with past Post memories. If you have any articles or photos, please drop them off at the Post. If you have any stories you know about the history of the Post, please record them and submit them to me. You can contact me at 904-241-7965. Thanks. Phil Harville

From the Commander: We need more volunteers to participate in Post projects and Post meetings. Our general meeting attendance has been less than 15 for some time now, and we need more attendance and participation in decision making for the Post. Please consider stepping up and helping your Post. Post 316 Children & Youth Program Participation

Every year, Post 316 participates in a number of programs that benefit our youth. The Boys State and Girls State programs are getting more expensive each year. If you work for a company that may be willing to sponsor a child, or belong to a fraternal organization like the Moose, Elks, Knights of Columbus, Kiwanas, Jay-Cees, etc. that may be willing to become a sponsor, or would like to sponsor a child yourself, please let us know. If they would like a presentation at a meeting, let Clarence Hill know and he will arrange to attend. -Boys State: We send 10 delegates every year. It now costs $450 per delegate as registration fee with the Department of Florida. It’s approximately another $100 per delegate for transportation and incidentals. We’d love to have an organization sponsor a delegate. -Girls State: Our Auxiliary sends 6 delegates to Girls State every year. It now costs $350 per delegate as a registration fee with the Department of Florida. It’s again approximately $100 per delegate for transportation and incidentals.

Project Vet Relief State Commander Steve Shuga has made Project Vet Relief his charity of choice for his year. This is a program of the Florida American Legion for Florida’s veterans-active duty, retirees and those who served but not long enough to retire. They work out of the Orlando State Headquarters and provide emergency relief as needed. Each Post in Florida has a 2 liter soda bottle labeled for Project Vet Relief that in Post 316 is on the bar near the draft beer tabs. The bottle is for donations of dimes only. If we fill the bottle, we will have raised $700 for this program. Please consider donating your dimes when you visit the Post. The bottle is now about 1/3 full.

Office Depot American Legion Discount Program Members of The American Legion can now receive discounts on more than 93,000 items at Office Depot/Office Max. Everyday items for the home, office and classroom are discounted up to 80% off. Each purchase supports The American Legion. Legion members can visit the members section of www.legion.org under “Member Discounts” to shop online, create a direct billing account or print a free in-store purchase card for these discounts.

Veterans Choice Program SCAM A phone line has been set up to attempt to scam veterans who happen to misdial the Veterans Choice Program phone number. The difference in phone numbers is in the Area Code. The Veterans Choice Program phone number is 1-866-606-8198, while the scammers’ phone number replaces the 866 with 800, thus the scammer number is 1-800-606-8198-do not call this number. The scammer line will offer a $100 rebate if you provide your credit card information. Not only would the VA not ask for this information, but VA would not offer incentives over the phone. The real Veterans Choice line will tell you that you have reached the US Department of Veterans Affairs, while the scam line tells callers you have reached the Veterans Choice Program.

Veterans Online Shopping Benefit DOD will soon grant online exchange shopping privileges to Vets of all branches of the Armed Forces at all Exchanges (X, NEX, MCX, CGX). Go to VetVerify.org to check your eligibility. Learn more at shopmyexchange.com/veterans.

Sons of The American Legion “THANK YOU” to our October 13th steak team. Steak night is the 10th so please come and participate. We are struggling to form a steak team for our one night a month. If you can grill steaks or help serve the meal, please volunteer. If we continue to have a problem forming a team, we may have to give up our steak night which is our primary fundraising effort. We have the 2018 mem-bership cards and are accepting renewals now. Our meeting is Satur-day the 7th at 1000, please come and participate. If you have sugges-tions, please let us know. Remember, it’s not the price you pay to be a member of the SAL, it’s

the price you relative paid for you to be ELIGIBLE.
