Surviving theHoliday Season

By Brian Rosso, R.D.During the holiday season, the

average person experiencesincreased stress and gains aboutfive pounds.

This weight gain and stresscan be minimized by followingthe suggestions listed below.

Exercise on a regular basis.People who schedule time toexercise are more successful atkeeping the extra pounds off andfeel better overall.

Avoid overeating your holidayfavorites! Eat a healthy mealbefore going to a party. Drinkplenty of water, decaffeinated teaor decaffeinated coffee. Not onlywill the liquids hydrate you, butthey will also fill your stomachand decrease your chances ofovereating. Enjoy your favoriteholiday foods, but eat them off asmall plate. This limits theamount of food you will eat andhelps keep the extra pounds off.

Keep your stress to a minimumover the holidays. Get plenty ofsleep, at least eight hours anight. Socialize with family andfriends. Eat well-balanced meals.Do not forget breakfast—it is themost important meal of the day.

Happy Holidays!

The Real Meaningof Christmas

by Carol P.Two thousand years ago

one bright starShining in a cold winter sky

pointed the way to a new world,A world without

war, greed, hatred, cruelty.Pointed the way to a babe in

a mangerwho would become the manfrom whom all time would be

measured.A man who would preach

love one anothershare your abundance

believe that miracles are possible. Now, we call the Night of that Star

Christmas EveAnd every year we get another chance

to practice what he preached. So this Christmas Eve

find someone who needs-that Star’s light for their darkness,

-the angel’s carols to fill their hearts,-and the wondrous love born that

night for comfort. And give it all away!

Then, maybe,We will find the real meaning of

Christmas. “Come to the Manger”On Friday, December 9th, at 2:00

p.m. we’ll take the bus to the BridgeCommunity Church in Troy to see over300 Nativity Sets. This event is free. There will be light refreshments. Signup quickly; there is limited space.
