DECEMBER 18TH TO THE 24TH

LifeEnrichment

The Holidays can be a sad timefor some, mostly because we thinkof someone who is no longer hereto celebrate with. We like to thinkit’s comforting and therapeutic toshare stories and memories ofthose we miss, let’s bring them toour holidays this season. EachFriday morning at 10 a.m. in theChapel, join fellow residents as wetalk about family and friends thattouched our lives. Considerdecorating a Memorial Tree (in theActivity Room) with the names ofthe people we’re missing atChristmas. We did this last yearand found it to be a great comfortfor lots of folks here including me!

FUNDRAISER FORMACOMB COUNTY SHERIFFDEPT. MOUNTED DIVISION

Residents enjoyed a delicious pastadinner, entertainment (by DeanMartin!) and door prizes for a worthycause. This an event that will becomea yearly tradition!

Gene is serenaded and Naomi petsone the Mounted Division’s finest!

Surviving theHoliday Season

By Brian Rosso, R.D.During the holiday season, the

average person experiences increasedstress and gains about five pounds.

This weight gain and stress can beminimized by following thesuggestions listed below.

Exercise on a regular basis. Peoplewho schedule time to exercise aremore successful at keeping the extrapounds off and feel better overall.

Avoid overeating your holidayfavorites! Eat a healthy meal beforegoing to a party. Drink plenty of water, decaffeinated tea or decaffeinatedcoffee. Not only will the liquidshydrate you, but they will also fill yourstomach and decrease your chancesof overeating. Enjoy your favoriteholiday foods, but eat them off a smallplate. This limits the amount of foodyou will eat and helps keep the extrapounds off.

Keep your stress to a minimum overthe holidays. Get plenty of sleep, atleast eight hours a night. Socializewith family and friends. Eatwell-balanced meals. Do not forgetbreakfast—it is the most importantmeal of the day.

Happy Holidays!
