WELCOME!

Welcome to the ABTC 2018 National Specialty – A Belgian Nation Celebration! What an exciting time for Belgian Lovers!! So, I ask you……what’s better than attending our Belgian Tervuren National Specialty? Attending all four Belgian Nationals at the same venue at the same time! Don’t expect much to change for our national, but there will be an opportunity to see all our sister breeds in the same venue doing their thing alongside of us doing ours. Purina Farms is the perfect world-class venue to have a dog show – especially a national! I can’t say enough about all the wonderful volunteers who have stepped forward to join the 2018 Committee. Please give them a huge pat on the back for their efforts! It takes a village to put on a National, and I am blessed to be a part of the ABTC Village! While most of our regular events will be held separately, we will try to combine some of the fun events for all to enjoy together. Look for the Welcome Reception to be a group affair as well as a special event for the Juniors. I feel so lucky to be involved in such a special event for our breed. Working with the other clubs on this event has been a pleasure, but as you can imagine, there will be a LOT of moving parts. Please be patient with all of us as we do our best to accommodate all the schedules for our very versatile breeds. I look forward to seeing all our Belgian Family together in one place and Celebrating our wonderfully versatile breeds! Karrie Messina ABTC 2018 Show Chair

TRACKING

April 8

Chair: Bob Willoh [email protected]

The 2018 tracking test will be held at the Sullivan Regional Airport grounds, about 30 minutes west of the host hotel on I-44. This is a small regional airport, primarily used by hobby flyers, that has nearly zero flying activity, and the tracks are well away from the runway. The use of this facility includes restrooms and a meeting room for assembly, drawings, ribbon presentation, etc. The TDX cover is moderately thick grass/hay that does get cut infrequently and can be from ankle to thigh height. Woods border the fields and are used as in & out obstacles. The TDs are a few minutes west of the airport in an industrial park with grass usually kept at ankle height. The test will be for 4 TDX and 2 TDs with a third TD as an alternate, pending space availability.

Policy on Standards of Behavior by ABTC Members Attending National Specialty Shows The ABTC has an excellent history of maintaining its Specialty headquarters and show site in good condition. Rings, grooming areas and hotel rooms occupied by its members are expected to be left with no appreciable damage, and as clean as possible, after the Specialty is over. As a measure of insuring that this standard will be met, the Club, as a matter of policy sets forth the following standards of behavior:

◆ No dog should be left uncrated in a hotel room in the absence of the room occupants at any time.

◆ Dogs that constitute a nuisance to other occupants of the hotel by continual barking or howling, may subject their owners to being removed by the hotel.

◆ There will be no extensive grooming of dogs in the hotel rooms. Grooming will be permitted only in the areas set aside for that purpose.

◆ No dogs should be washed in hotel bathtubs, and hotel towels should not be used on dogs for drying them or any other purpose.

◆ The external and internal premises of the hotel and show site shall be kept free of debris and feces caused by the presence of dogs attending the Specialty.

◆ The Club will provide a committee to inspect rooms upon member checkout, either separately from, or in concert with, designated members from the hotel staff. Should any room or its contents exhibit signs of unusual wear or damage because of the presence of a dog or dogs, the occupant of that room may be held up to censure by the Club and shall reimburse the hotel for all damages. Offenders may be censured, held In suspension of membership or expelled from membership in the ABTC should the circumstances warrant.

◆ While the ABTC cannot assume legal responsibility for the actions of individual persons attending one of its national specialties, it does assume ethical responsibility for their actions. It will make every effort to assure that any offending person make redress to the hotel or show site in the event that he/she is responsible for damage to the premises.

◆ The ABTC urges its members to carefully inspect their rooms prior to checkout.

◆ Exhibitors are not to bring litters of puppies to the Show Headquarters.

◆ Non-ABTC members attending the 2018 ABTC National Specialty will adhere to these standards.

◆ All dogs will be on a leash at all times.

◆ By exhibiting at the National Specialty, you are agreeing to abide by the rules established by the show committee and the host hotel. Failure to follow these rules will result in removal from the host hotel.

All National Specialty attendees are expected to adhere to these standards.
