THE JOURNEY CHURCHGrowth Group Leader Training
Fall 2018
“Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from
evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the
glory, for ever. Amen.”
- Matthew 6:9-13 (KJV)

Growth Groups @ The Journey
The Journey exists to give the people of New York City the best opportunity to become fully developing followers of Jesus.
CORE BELIEF: At The Journey, we believe our church must…
grow LARGER and SMALLER at the same time.
As a result, The Journey has 2 types of church meetings:
Large Group: Sunday Service
Small Group: Growth Group
“They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord's Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity – all the while praising God and enjoying the
goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their group those who were being saved.” – Acts 2:46-47
Two Requirements to be a Growth Group Leader:
1. A sincere LOVE OF GOD.
2. A sincere LOVE OF PEOPLE
“‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the other commandments and all the demands of the prophets are based on
these two commandments.” – Matthew 22:37-40

Lord’s Prayer SyllabusFall Lord’s Prayer Growth Groups
Welcome to your Lord’s Prayer Growth Group! Your group will meet weekly beginning the week of October 1st and continue through the week of December 10th.
This Fall, you and your Growth Group will have the opportunity to go line by line, verse by verse, studying the most powerful prayer every prayed. Each day you’ll read an email devotion and each week you will read a short chapter about the Lord’s Prayer from the book, The Lord’s Prayer, by Douglass Connelly. Then, on Sundays at The Journey, the teaching will connect to the verse of the Lord’s Prayer that you’ll discuss in your group.
Make sure to take time with your group each week to pray the Lord’s Prayer together and to commit it to memory.

HOW TO MAXIMIZE PRAYER IN YOUR GROWTH GROUP
How Does My Growth Group “WIN”?My Growth Group “WINS” when together we apply God’s biblical principles to our lives and
pray for one another .
“They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—all
the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship
those who were being saved.” -Acts 2:46-47
HOW TO MAXIMIZE PRAYER. . .
Before My Group
1)Pray for my growth group every day
“So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual
wisdom and understanding.”- Colossians 1:9
2) Pray that God helps me lead each week(don’t do this on your own!)
3) Record MY Lord’s Prayer Memorization Challenge
During My Group:
1) Read the Lord’s Prayer out loud in my group each week
2) Share Prayer Requests and email them out each week
“Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.” - Ephesians 6:18
3) Follow the DO’S and DON’TS of Prayer Time:
DO: Encourage everyone to share a prayer request Share a prayer request myself Let Journey Staff know about serious prayer requests
DON’T: Make someone pray out loud if they don’t want to Let one person take over prayer time each week Skip the closing prayer time
After My Group:
1) Pray for weekly prayer requests
2) Celebrate answered prayers of my group members
3) Attend the Lord’s Prayer series together on Sundays
