Complex Build form ¡  The Contemporary house is set on

230m2 Beach front land and has 3 levels over a basement garage.

¡  The design consists of two el l ipt ical forms that meet each other to create a f loor plan.

¡  The ground f loor is a combinat ion of a convent ional suspended slab with band beams, and a suspended bondek slab.

¡  The above ground structure is predominantly l ightweight , consist ing of an intr icate steel por tal f rame, in f i l led with engineered f loor beams.

¡  A lot of curved wal ls make this a complex construct ion

STRUCTURAL CONCEPT

¡  Dince l - a p las t ic PVC pane l that i s in ter locked together, and f i l led wi th concrete and s tee l reo to c reate a waterproof wal l . – L i f t and Basement – Shear wal l fo r b rac ing

¡  Cur ved wal ls - a s tandard wal l i s bu i l t by p lac ing s tandard 90 x 40 p lates on ground and top however fo r cur ved wal ls the p lates are custom cut in the cor rect rad ius o f cur ve .

¡  Also in a cur ved wal l the s tuds have to be c loser to a l low for p las ter to g rab in – the t ighter the rad ius the more s tuds there are .

¡  Yel low tongue f loor ing – fo r indoor areas

¡  Compressed Sheet – fo r outdoor areas such as the ba lcony and veranda as i t i s ex t remely dense and las ts long .

¡  Pos i -St ruts F loor Jo is ts - A l low for la rge spans wi thout the need for load bear ing suppor ts . They are L ightweight – pre fabr icated and thus Economica l – both cost and t ime. Suppor t load ver y we l l .

MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION

¡  Some interest ing c ladding/wal l f in ishes -Predominantly metal c ladding that is marine resistant , and curved glass that has to be made in Sydney.

¡  The glazing structure is s imilar to that of a cur tain wal l on a commercial bui lding, which al lows large amounts to be predominantly f rameless.

¡  Curvi l inear cant i levered balconies contrast with the rect i l inear her i tage streetscape.

¡  Design exploits uninterrupted bay v iews.

¡  Roof top deck provides outdoor open space and is caped by a “Float ing” z inc-c lad roof .
