Before You Start

This module describes Amadeus availability, schedule, and timetable displays for flights worldwide. It describes how to request displays and how to interpret them. It also describes how to request flight and minimum connect time information.

Audience

This training module is intended for NMC and system user airline staff attending Amadeus functionality training courses.

Conventions Used

The following conventions are used in this module:

• Spacing between the components of an entry is optional unless otherwise specified, making them clearer and easier to understand.

• Some system responses have been slightly altered for layout considerations.

• This module contains screen examples of distribution system displays. Depending on the entries you make, your responses may vary.

• System responses in this module show the year as 0x.

Recall Entry

HE RE

You can recall the last entry, or entries you have made in the distribution system. When you make this entry, the system automatically redisplays your last entry, and if you make it again, it displays the entry before that.

To recall your last entry, enter:

RE

The system redisplays your last entry, positioning the cursor at the end of the entry. The system recalls entries up to 255 characters in length.

Page 6: AmadeusAirTMe12.0

Amadeus Air Training Module

2 Edition 12.0

There is also an entry that allows you to recall the entry you made before the last entry:

RE2

To retransmit your entry to the system, you must edit it in some way. If you do not wish to edit it, you must at least leave a space at the end of the command line.

Requesting Help After an Error Message

When you make a mistake in an entry, the system responds with an error message. If you receive an error message, you can display the Amadeus Online Help pages for the last transaction code you entered.

You make the following entry:

AN090023DECPARJFK

System Response:

CHECK DATE >

To request online help for the AN transaction code, enter:

HE/

System Response:

AVAILABILITY/SCHED 1 EN 29OCT0x 0957Z FOR AN EXPLANATION PLEASE ENTER MS106 NOTE: THE ENTRIES IN THIS HELP PAGE USE THE TRANSACTION CODE FOR A NEUTRAL AVAILABILITY (AN) OR NEUTRAL SCHEDULE (SN) DISPLAY. Chapter 1

Amadeus Air

This module is designed to familiarize you with the functionality of Amadeus Air which includes flight availability, flight schedules, and timetable information. It also describes the entries you can make to request specific flight information.

Amadeus Air provides airline schedules for more than 780 airlines and availability information for flights that have seats available for sale on more than 460 airlines. The distribution system stores over 500,000 city pairs and 3.9 million routings world-wide, offering you a wide range of direct flights and over 60 million connecting flight options. See GG PCAL FIG.

Through Amadeus Access, you are provided with a real-time link to the airline inventory systems. A virtual image of the airline inventory is kept in the Amadeus database, so you can be sure you are seeing an immediate display of any flight operation changes and real-time availability information.

From the current date, you can request schedules and availability for 361 days in the future and 3 days in the past. Past-date and shuttle flights are displayed without availability status codes.

Availability and schedule displays contain flights for airlines that have a sales agreement with Amadeus.

Order of Flights

The system displays the flights in the following order:

• Non-stop flights

• Direct flights with stops en route

• Connecting flights and flights with a change of equipment en route

Note: The display sequence for availability displays requested from terminals located in the United States may vary as they are governed by the rules set forth by the U. S. Department of Transportation.

Table: Components of Amadeus Air

Product Explanation

Availability Flights that have at least one class available for sale or waitlist

Schedules All scheduled flights whether they have seats available or not

Timetable Flight information, including the days of operation

Direct Access The ability to access a specific airline reservation system directly

The Availability and Schedules products include the Carrier-preferred and Alliance displays.

European Union (EU) and the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) following regulations apply to the display sequence on availability displays.

Note: GDS display rules may change due to deregulation.

EU Display

• Non-stop flights by departure time

• Direct flights by elapsed flight time

• Flights with equipment change en route and connecting flights by elapsed flight time (for connecting flights no sorting is done between two and three segment connections, and online and interline.)

Flights are displayed for airlines that have a sales agreement with Amadeus.

Note: European regulations apply to the availability displays of most Amadeus markets, except for the US NMC.

Definition of Flight Types

The following table defines the types of flights that can appear in an availability display:

Table: Flight Types

Flight Type Definition

Non-Stop A flight that operates between two cities and does not make any stops.

Direct An online flight that operates between two cities and makes a stop in one or more cities en route.

Connecting A flight that operates between two cities and makes a change online or interline in one or more cities en route.

Change of Equipment

Change of Gauge

An online flight that operates between two cities with a change of aircraft at an intermediate city.

The following table describes the types of flights you can see that are controlled by a marketing agreement.

Table: Flights Controlled by a Marketing Agreement

Flight Type Type Of Marketing Agreement

Code-Share – Leased/ blocked space

Each of the airlines sells seats from the same aircraft under its own flight number. It is marked with a (:) in the Amadeus Availability Display.

Code-Share – Wet Lease

An airline hires the aircraft and the crew from another airline and markets the flight under its own 2-letter airline code. It is marked with a (*) in the Amadeus Availability Display.

Joint Flight A flight that represents a marketing agreement between two airlines that compete over the same route.

Note: For more details of these flight types refer to Code Share Flights on page 24.

Airline Access Indicators

Amadeus offers airlines several types of access for availability and schedule displays, and for booking seats.

Access levels and the indicators that can appear in the availability display are described in the table below.

Table: Amadeus Access Indicators

Indicator Access Type Explanation

/ Full Amadeus Access Full Amadeus Access is a combination of Amadeus Access Update and Amadeus Access Sell. These two options are offered to airlines either combined or separately. When an airline chooses both options, the indicator is a slash (/). Both options provide the highest degree of connectivity with actual seat availability and immediate confirmation.

: Amadeus Access Update Amadeus Access Update allows an airline to keep its availability displays in Amadeus fully synchronized with those in its own system. Schedule changes are immediate and last seat availability is offered.

. Amadeus Access Sell Amadeus Access Sell offers a fully secured sale for each seat. When a request to book a seat is made, Amadeus checks the flight in the airline's own inventory system According to the status, the sale is confirmed, waitlisted, or rejected immediately.

* Amadeus Direct Access Direct Access provides a real-time link to the airline's own system to display an accurate availability at the time the request is made This link is created through the use of Direct Access entries.

(Blank) Standard Access Standard access offers flight availability and schedules that are updated once a week by tape Availability levels are updated by standard AIRIMP messages When you book a seat on a standard access airline, a teletype message is generated to that airline at end transaction.

To find out the level of access for an airline, display the GGPCA page, described in Airline Information on page 10.

Record Locator Return

Amadeus offers record locator return which enables you to verify that a reservation has been recorded in an airline's inventory system. The airline can be connected through Amadeus Access Sell, Direct Access, or Standard Access.

There are two types of record locator return:

RRA The airline returns the record locator regardless of the type of display you booked it from.

RRD The airline only returns the record locator if you made the booking from a Direct Access display.

To view the type of record return level an airline participates in, enter:

GG PCA XX

Note: XX equals the two-character airline code.

When an airline participates in record locator return, an --- RLR --- tag is appended to the first line of a retrieved PNR. For example:

--- RLR --- RP/LHRLH0900/LHRLH0900 WG/SU 10AUG0x/1233Z DRTFND 1.BALDWIN/FRED MR 2 LH 402 C 19SEP 2 FRAEWR HK1 1 1330 1605 *1A/ 3 CO 637 F 20SEP 3 EWRIAH HK1 C 0840 1123 *CO* 4 AP LON 071 236 4466-H 5 TK OK10AUG/LHRLH0900 >

At end transaction, each airline that participates in record locator return sends a record locator to the distribution system for its segments in the PNR. You can use this record locator as a reference if a problem arises.

--- RLR --- RP/PARAF0900/NCE1A0900 WG/SU 2MAY0x/0803Z A34FFR 1.WATSON/JAMES MR 2 AF2230 C 19SEP 1 CDGCPH HK1 1055 2B 1120 1315 *1A/ 3 SK 563 C 23SEP 5 CPHCDG HK1 0910 1105 *1A/ 4 AP PAR 78 56 22 99-B 5 TK OK02MAY/PARAF0900 >

To display the record locators for the PNR above, enter:

The system displays the record locator for the Air France and SAS segments.

Requesting an Availability Display

HE AIR

You can request four types of availability displays. The type of display that appears on your screen is based on the availability transaction code you use in your entry.

Table: The Four Types of Availability Displays

Entry Displays

AN 19OCT CDG LHR 0900

(transaction code)(departure date) (origin city code)(destination city code)(departure time)

A neutral availability display for flights departing one hour before the time specified in your entry. Direct and connecting flights appear in order by the shortest elapsed flying time.

AD 15AUG FRA CPH 0800

(transaction code)(departure date) (origin city code)(destination city code) (departure time)

An availability by departure time for flights departing one hour before the time specified in your entry.

AA 20JUL LHR MAD 1600

(transaction code)(departure date) (origin city code)(destination city code) (arrival time)

An availability display by arrival time. The system displays the flights by arrival time order, including flights that arrive up to two hours before the time specified in your entry.

AE 15MAR CDG LON 0800

(transaction code)(departure date) (origin city code)(destination city code) (departure time)

An availability display by elapsed travel time. The system calculates the elapsed time from the departure time requested in your entry, to the actual departure time of the flight. It then adds this time to the actual elapsed flying time. The flights with the shortest elapsed time are displayed first.

The minimum entry to request an availability display is one of the four transaction codes and the 3-letter destination city or airport code. For example:

AN LHR

When you make the minimum entry, the system assumes the following:

• Departure date is the current date of the origin city

• The origin city is the city associated to your terminal

• The time is the current time of the origin city

Page 18: AmadeusAirTMe12.0

/ Last seat availability indicator

This indicates that the seat count for this flight can be obtained in real time from the airline’s inventory. The seat count can be found in neutral displays and in carrier-preferred displays based on the following criteria:

• Permanently for all Amadeus Access Update airlines with numeric AVS.

• Only when Amadeus has received a response from airlines using Amadeus Access dynamic availability.

Last seat availability is obtained through this process:

• For airlines using Amadeus Access Update: The seat count shown for a class, is the true number of seats left for that class.

• For airlines using Amadeus Access dynamic availability: Amadeus requests a real-time flight availability with a query to the airline, and the airline responds with the appropriate information, which Amadeus then displays.

A plus (+) or minus (-) sign and a number after the departure and arrival times, indicate a difference in the date specified in the entry. The plus sign (+) indicates the number of days later (0910+1), and the minus sign (-) indicates the number of days earlier (1510-1) that the flight departs or arrives.

An asterisk (*) preceding the departure time indicates that there is operational flight information for that flight.

Connecting Flight

A connecting flight is shown on two lines, but has only one availability line number. This availability display illustrates connecting flights between Nice and Moscow via Munich:

A connecting flight can be up to six segments.

When six or more non-stop and direct flights are displayed, following an availability or schedule request, Amadeus no longer shows the connections on the same display. You are prompted to use the MD entry to see connections. When fewer than six non-stop and direct flights are shown, the connections are displayed.

Change of Gauge Flight

A change of gauge flight, is a flight on the same airline with an equipment change en route. These flights can be displayed on two or three lines in an availability display.

The availability display below illustrates a change of gauge flight on American Airlines between Miami and Albuquerque. From Miami to Dallas the aircraft is a 72S, and from Dallas to Albuquerque the aircraft changes to a M80.

The airline code, flight number, and classes of service are only displayed on the first line, but apply to both legs of the flight.

Rail Services

In various markets, Amadeus can display rail services in the same availability display as air services. When filed in the same way that airlines file their flight information, rail providers can be seen in conjunction with air flights in availability, schedule, and timetable displays.

It may be necessary to use the IATA code for the railway stations in order to see the rail services.

Here is an example from London Waterloo to Paris Gare du Nord on Eurostar:

Charter Flights

Amadeus neutral availability displays can contain ‘unbundled’ charter flights. An ‘unbundled’ charter means that you sell only the seat, without any other pre-arranged services. A charter flight is indicated with the letter C after the availability line number.

In this example the charter flight is on line 1.

Code Share Flights

There are several types of code share agreements:

• Leased/blocked space

• Wet or dry lease agreement

• Other operating carrier

• Joint flight

Code Share - Leased/Blocked Space

When a Leased/Blocked Space agreement exists between two airlines each airline sells seats from the same aircraft under its own flight number.

In the availability display operating airline’s code is shown after the availability line number immediately before the colon (:). The marketing airline’s code and flight number is shown after the colon. The operating airline displays its flight under its own airline code and flight number on a separate line of the availability display.

For example:

AN10JUNFRAMIA ** AMADEUS AVAILABILITY - AN ** MIA MIAMI.USFL 71 TH 10JUN 0000 1 LH 462 F9 A9 O2 C9 D9 Z9 I3 /FRA 1 MIA 0950 1330 E0/744 9:40 R2 Y9 B9 M9 H9 X9 Q9 N9 V9 W9 S0 2LH:UA8849 F4 C4 D4 Z4 Y4 B4 M4 FRA 1 MIA 0950 1330 E0.744 9:40 H4 Q4 V4 W4 A4 S0 3 BA 901 J9 C9 D9 I9 Y9 B9 H5 /FRA 2 LHR 1 0725 0815 E0/763 K9 M9 R9 V9 L9 S9 Q9 O9 BA 207 F9 A8 J9 C9 D9 I9 W9 /LHR 3 MIA 0940 1350 E0/744 12:25 T9 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 R9 V9 N9 L9 S9 Q9 O9 4LH:BD3210 C4 D4 J0 Y4 B4 M4 /FRA 1 LHR 2 0725 0805 0/321 BA 207 F9 A8 J9 C9 D9 I9 W9 /LHR 3 MIA 0940 1350 E0/744 12:25 T9 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 R9 V9 N9 L9 S9 Q9 O9 5 LH4722 C5 D2 Z0 I0 R0 Y9 B0 /FRA 1 LHR 2 0725 0805 E0/321 M0 H0 X0 Q0 N0 V0 S0 BA 207 F9 A8 J9 C9 D9 I9 W9 /LHR 3 MIA 0940 1350 E0/744 12:25 T9 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 R9 V9 N9 L9 S9 Q9 O9 6 LH4670 C9 D9 Z9 I0 R0 Y9 B9 /FRA 1 AMS 0735 0840 E0/319 M9 H3 X0 Q0 N0 V0 S0 MP 645 C4 Z4 S4 B4 M4 H4 Q4 AMS MIA 1020 1400 0.763 12:25 V4 N4 O4 >

Joint Flights

A joint flight is a result of a marketing agreement between two airlines that compete over the same route. There is no indicator identifying joint flights in an availability display, only the operating airline’s code and flight number are displayed. However when you sell a seat on a joint flight the system displays the operating and the marketing airlines’ codes next to each other followed by the flight number.

Availability 7-Day Search

You can search for flights for a 7-day range from the date you specify in the availability entry. This entry is useful for:

• Peak travel times

• Limited frequency

To request a 7-day search display, enter a slash (/) after the availability transaction code. For example:

AN / 20JUNDUSMIA

System Response:

**FIRST FLIGHT AVAILABLE 21JUN** DUS MIA ** AMADEUS AVAILABILITY - AN ** MIA MIAMI.USFL 163 FR 21JUN 0000 1 LT 900 C4 M9 W9 T9 Y0 H0 Q0 /DUS B MIA 1150 1545 0/332 9:55 K0 G0 L0 N0 B0 V0 >

The header line advises you of the date when the first flight is available (21JUN). The system begins its search from the date in your entry, and in this case the first available flight is on June 21st.

When the system cannot find a flight it responds with the message:

**NOT AVAILABLE 08FEB-15FEB** SEA NOU USE SCHEDULE DISPLAY -SN- OR MODIFY OPTIONS /A../C >

Note: Flights that are available for waitlist only on all segments will not appear in the 7-day search availability display.

Multi-airport City

If you specify the code for a city that is served by more than one airport, the availability will show flights for all of those airports. To restrict availability to a single airport for a multi-airport city, use the airport code (not the city code) in your request entry.

If you enter a city code that is the same as the airport code for that city, such as HOU for Houston city and Houston Hobby airport, the system will use the city code by default.

When the airport code is the same as the city code, but you only want to display flights from a single airport, add the plus sign (+) after the city code. For example, enter:

Carrier-preferred Availability

A carrier-preferred availability provides you with a biased availability display for an Amadeus Access Airline. It is controlled by the target airline. The carrier-preferred display is available for those carriers that have a carrier-preferred display agreement with Amadeus. This display enables an individual airline to display flights of its choice and flights it encourages its own agents to sell. The display can include:

• Flights of the specific airline, even though other airlines may offer an earlier service.

• Flights operated by the airlines chosen affiliates.

• Flights that are normally excluded from a display due to lengthy flying time, or excessive mileage.

To request a carrier-preferred display, enter the airline code after the availability transaction code. For example:

Dual-City Pair Availability

You can request dual-city pair availability in one entry. The system searches for any combination of non-stop, direct, or connecting flights for each half of the dual-city routing. You can use any one of the four availability or schedule transaction codes.

To request a round-trip availability, enter an asterisk (*) and the return date at the end of your entry. For example:

Displaying Connecting Points

When you are not sure of a logical connecting point between two cities, you can display the connecting points that are stored in Amadeus for a specific city pair. This is for informational purposes only.

You can use the connecting points displayed in an availability or schedule request. Not all possible connecting cities are displayed, only the ones that meet the neutral selection rules established by Amadeus for this display.

To request connecting points for a specific city pair, enter:

Direct Access

HE DIRECT

HE DIR AIRLINE CODE

Direct Access provides you with direct access to the reservation systems of some airlines. Using standard Amadeus entries, you can obtain current information on the availability of seats through a connection between Amadeus and the airline.

Most airlines offer a higher level of access than Direct Access. However, if an airline is implemented in Standard Access but also supports Direct Access, you are recommended to make reservations using Direct Access.

By accessing the reservation system of the airline directly, you can sell the last seat available on a flight without the airline rejecting the booking after end transaction. Flights can be sold even if they are on a request basis or are showing waitlist status on other types of Amadeus displays. You can see up to a maximum of 26 classes of service in a Direct Access display.

Any Amadeus user has the ability to directly access the inventory systems of the airlines that have a Direct Access agreement with Amadeus. You can find out if an airline supports Direct Access from its GGPCA page.

For example:

Shuttle Flights

A schedule display can contain shuttle flights. When a flight or class of service is designated as a shuttle service, the availability or schedule display shows the class without an availability status. You can also identify shuttle flights when the availability or schedule display shows an E or U class of service.

This availability display illustrates a shuttle service.

Here are some important points to remember when selling a shuttle flight:

• For standard access airlines, selling a shuttle flight is restricted.

• For Amadeus Access airlines, the short sell entry is restricted, and a long sell entry is used. The airline may or may not accept the booking. If the booking is not accepted the appropriate warning message is displayed.

• From a Direct Access display, when an availability status is shown, the short sell entry is allowed and the long sell entry is restricted.

You use the open segment entry (SO) to add a shuttle flight to a PNR for information, fares, or ticketing purposes.

To issue a ticket for a PNR containing shuttle flights only, you use the temporary ticketing mode (TY entry).

Timetable Displays

HE TN

Timetable displays contain flights of all airlines between a specific city pair for a one-week period. The display shows you the frequency of flights between two airports and indicates which airlines operate on a particular day of the week.

The timetable display includes details of the period of operation of flights by their effective and discontinue dates. They are ordered in the same hierarchy as availability displays.

Timetable displays only contain flights for participating carriers. If you want the display to include non-participating carriers, you must add the /A option to your entry.

Timetable display entries are in the same format as availability and schedule displays. You access them using the letter T for the transaction code.

Flight Tracking

The minimum connecting time calculation can be affected if the minimum connecting time of one or both of the flights is based on flight tracking data supplied by the airline, rather than the country codes. If minimum connecting time flight tracking information has been applied to calculate the minimum connecting time, you will see an information message at the end of the display as follows:

FLIGHT TRACKING APPLIED >

If you specify transfer types in your entry, the system does not compute the real transfer type. If you specify transfer types that are different from those that would have been applied automatically, the system responds with the following message:

UNEXPECTED TRANSFER INDICATORS ENTERED >

If you put transfer types in your entry when flight tracking would otherwise have been applied, the system responds with the following message:

FLIGHT TRACKING EXISTS D/D WOULD HAVE BEEN APPLIED >

The D/D indicates the type of connection (domestic to domestic) that would have been used.
