Before You Start

This user guide is designed to familiarize you with Amadeus Best Pricer. It describes how Amadeus Best Pricer works and gives you a list of the most commonly used Amadeus Best Pricer entries and entry options.

Audience

This user guide is intended for agents having access to Amadeus Best Pricer.

Conventions Used

• Spacing between the components of an entry is optional, unless otherwise specified, making them clearer and easier to understand.

• This user guide contains screen examples of central system displays. Depending on the entries you make, your responses may vary.

• The system responses in this user guide show the year as 0x.

Recall Entry

You can recall the last entry, or entries you have made in the distribution system. When you make this entry, the system automatically redisplays your last entry, and if you make it again, it display the entry before that.

To recall your last entry, enter:

RE

The system redisplays your last entry, positioning the cursor at the end of the entry. The system recalls entries up to 255 characters in length.

There is also an entry that allows you to recall the entry you made before the last entry:

RE2

To retransmit your entry to the system, you must edit it in some cases. If you do not wish to edit it, you must at least leave a space at the end of the entry command.

Requesting Help After an Error Message

When you make a mistake in an entry, the system responds with an error message. If you receive an error message, you can display the Amadeus Online Help pages for the last transaction code you entered.

Chapter 1

Introduction to Amadeus Best Pricer

HE BEST PRICER

Amadeus Best Pricer automates the search for the cheapest flights by integrating flight availability and pricing in the same process.

Amadeus Best Pricer enables you to price a PNR with the lowest available fare for a booked itinerary. It checks for the cheapest pricing solution and availability in lower booking classes, or for lower fares in the same booking class as already booked. The system suggests only fares that are applicable to the itinerary and the passenger type. It also checks the rule conditions, such as advance purchase, and minimum and maximum stay requirements.

Amadeus Best Pricer can automatically rebook an itinerary in a lower booking class, by using the highest level of access available for the airlines booked in the PNR. Alternatively, the system can inform you of lower fares without rebooking, to enable you to check if the suggested fare is suitable for the passenger, without changing the PNR. You can also choose to store, or not to store the pricing response in a Transitional Stored Ticket (TST).

Depending on the settings defined by your local help desk, Amadeus Best Pricer checks for lower fares across all cabins of the aircraft, and gives preference to the highest cabin when the same fare applies. The system can also be set to check for lower fares in the same cabin as the already booked segment. Your local Amadeus Help Desk Services Center can inform you about the default for your market.

Amadeus Best Pricer supports the standard PNR Pricing follow-up entries, e.g. FQN, FQR, FQQ, FQS.

Amadeus Service Fee Manager is fully integrated with Amadeus Best Pricer. The Best Pricer low fare search includes the ticketing fees by default.

Amadeus Best Pricer Entries

The following table explains the basic Amadeus Best Pricer entries.

FXB Rebooks to the lowest available fare, and creates a TST Note: Can only be used if the PNR contains a passenger

FXR Rebooks to the lowest available fare without TST creation

FXA Displays a list of lower available/possible fares

FXU Selects a fare after FXA, rebooks, and creates a TST Note: Can only be used if the PNR contains a passenger

name element.

FXZ Selects a fare after FXA, rebook without TST creation

FXL Displays the lowest possible fare Note: The system also informs you about seat availability.

Conditions and Restrictions

The following conditions and restrictions apply for Amadeus Best Pricer:

• Amadeus Best Pricer can process different discounts and passenger types within a PNR, provided that all passengers are booked in the same class, and that the respective rules allow pricing. Discounts can be included in the Amadeus Best Pricer entry, or in the passenger name field, or stored as fare discount elements (FD) in the PNR. If the passengers have to be priced in different booking classes to qualify for the lowest fare, Amadeus Best Pricer will recommend splitting the PNR to optimize the total price.

• For round trip and circle trip itineraries, you can price a maximum of 12 flight segments or 10 flight segments and two surface segments.

• For one way itineraries, you can price a maximum of 11 flight segments or nine flight segments and two surface segments.

• Amadeus Best Pricer applies the standard pricing rules including the precedence of carrier fares over YY fares.

• You can perform Amadeus Best Pricer on a PNR containing married segments. (The married segments must not be separated by segment selection.) However, the rebooking will only occur if the airline allows married segments to be rebooked.

• You can use the Amadeus Best Pricer entries FXA, FXL, and FXR without passenger name elements in the PNR.

• You cannot use Amadeus Best Pricer for open or passive flight segments.

• Partial passenger selection is not allowed. If you need to passenger-select to enter discounts, select all passengers, and apply the code PAX to those passengers with no specific discount.

• You cannot apply Amadeus Best Pricer on PNRs with passengers who require more than one seat (stretcher passengers, extra seat bookings or cabin baggage).

• You cannot use Amadeus Best Pricer for PNRs with more than nine passengers requiring a seat or for non-homogeneous PNRs.

• Amadeus Best Pricer rebooking entries are not allowed in Temporary Ticketing Mode (TY).


Chapter 2

Amadeus Best Pricer with Automatic Rebooking

HE FXB

You can use the Amadeus Best Pricer entries FXB and FXR to rebook an itinerary in a lower class. FXB creates a TST, FXR does not.

The following PNR illustrates the Amadeus Best Pricer function:

Since the PNR contains several passengers, the system displays a list of passenger and fare details. You can view any of the fare details when there is only one TST, by entering:

To view the details for a specific TST when multiple TSTs exist, enter the TST number. For example:

All passengers in this example have exactly the same fare, and therefore the same TST.

If instead you use the entry FXR to rebook, the response with a list of passenger and fare details will be the same, but no TSTs are created. You can still view the fare details by using the entry FQQ, followed by a number for a passenger.

If you want to go back to a previous (move previous) Amadeus Best Pricer system response, enter, for example:

When you retrieve the PNR, you can see that the itinerary has been rebooked.

Amadeus Best Pricer with Manual Rebooking

You can use the Amadeus Best Pricer entry FXA to display a list of lower applicable fares. As a follow-up you can choose to do a manual rebooking with the entry FXU which stores a TST, or the entry FXZ which does not store a TST.

Displaying the Lowest Available Fare In a retrieved or newly created PNR, you can search for lower fares that match the flights and dates of the current itinerary by adding the following options to the FXA entry.

To display the lowest applicable (possible or available) fare, enter:

To display a list of lower available fares than the one booked in the PNR, enter:

FXA/LI

To display only the lowest available fare, enter:

FXA/LA

Note: The /LO, /LI, and /LA options cannot be combined in one entry.

Displaying the Lowest Possible Fare HE FXL

You can use the entry FXL to display the lowest possible fare for an itinerary. The system will also advise you about seat availability. There is no follow-up entry to rebook the itinerary with FXL. Use either the FXB or the FXR entry.

You can view the fare details for any of the passengers by using the FQQ entry, for example, FQQ3. If there is only one passenger in the PNR, the system displays a ticket image.

Chapter 4

Using Passenger Discounts with Amadeus Best Pricer

You may combine multiple passenger types with Amadeus Best Pricer, provided that the lowest fare per passenger is booked in the same class for all passengers, and that the fare rule conditions allow pricing.

If different booking classes apply, the system displays the following message:

If the flight availability for a passenger type is less than the total number of passengers in a PNR, the system does not display the split PNR message. Instead it rebooks all passengers in a higher available class.

Entering Passenger Type Codes in the Amadeus Best Pricer Entry

If the passenger type codes are not included in the name fields of the PNR, you can include them in the Amadeus Best Pricer entry. However, you must select all passengers in the PNR, even though you only want to apply a specific discount for specific passengers.

You cannot include infants in an Amadeus Best Pricer entry when you apply specific discounts for specific passengers. Perform your Amadeus Best Pricer entry for all non-infant passengers, rebook the PNR, then price the infant separately with a normal pricing entry. Here is an example:

Chapter 6

Cabin Option

When searching for low fares, you can include the cabin option /K, which searches for fare options in the specified cabins. The cabin option can be used at itinerary level with any of the Amadeus Best Pricer entries (FXA, FXB, and so on).

Note: Some airlines also offer the Economy Coach Premium Cabin Class, which is an intermediate comfort level between standard economy and business class. To include this option in your Amadeus Best Pricer search, add the Economy Coach Premium booking code W to your entry.

To search for fares in Business Class, enter, for example:

In case a requested cabin does not exist on all the flights in the PNR (but at least on one flight), you can specify a default cabin in your entry. For example, to search for the lowest fare in First when the First cabin does not exist on a specific flight, you can default to Business cabin by entering:

You can use a plus sign (+) to default to any other existing cabin on the flight. For example, to search for the lowest fare in First when the First cabin is not available on a specific flight, you can default to any other cabin, by entering:

FXA/KF,+

You can also specify two cabin default levels. The system searches for First when the cabin is not available on a specific flight, for Business cabin. When the Business cabin is not available, the search is extended to Economy cabin:

FXA/KF,C,Y
