Dwell in Unity

Considering the staggering height of redwood trees, we assume they must need incredibly deep roots. But these giants have extremely shallow roots, growing only 4 to 6 feet deep.

Instead of heading downward, the roots extend outward — spreading out as far as 125 feet. Stability occurs because the roots intertwine with those of neighboring trees. This network allows redwoods to stand tall despite strong winds and storms.

In a similar way, such interconnectedness keeps the body of Christ standing strong. Psalm 133:1 urges believers to “dwell in unity” (ESV). In order to inhabit one another’s lives, we must share our stories, offer forgiveness and provide encouragement. Through those actions, our roots spread wide as we support our brothers and sisters in Christ, our community and our world.

They’re working on an online resource that will allow for previewing, pre-bidding, and purchasing of quilts and will be available regardless of how the auction is held. The goal is to have that available by the beginning of October.

“We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to our friends who invest many hours on quilted items each year. With your hard work and dedication, we were able to raise over $18,000 with 150 items in 2019.

We are currently accepting donations of quilted items, including but not limited to:

Table Runners Wall Hangings Full, Queen, King-size Quilts

Also accepting donations for the silent auction. These may be quilt-related items, but don’t have to be - items in new condition, please.”

Donations may be sent or taken to the Festival of Sharing office at 3601 Amron Court, Columbia MO 65202. The donation deadline is August 14th. Donation forms and more information may be found at the website: www.festivalofsharing.org or contact the church office.

Festival of Sharing: One Mission. Many Communities.

The Festival of Sharing is a cooperative response to hunger, poverty and injustice. These concerns motivate our actions to raise awareness of root causes and generate solutions. Our goal is to promote and support projects and programs by providing funding and resource goods. When people of faith come together and share, we can make a positive and powerful difference in the lives of our neighbors.

The Festival of Sharing is an ecumenical ministry of the Missouri Conference of the United Methodist Church. For many years, it was held at the Missouri State Fairgrounds in Sedalia in October. Several years ago, the decision was made that the expense of renting the fairgrounds outweighed the benefits, and it was changed to several regional “ShareFest” events held on various weekends during the fall.

Our regional event is September 12 at Macon UMC, Macon MO. Registration and final details will be available July 1st. Mark your calendar! One of the main ways for us to get involved is to collect items for any of the various kits and packs that will be gathered at the ShareFests:

Personal Hygiene Pack Family Food Box Student Dental Pack Paper Products Pack Reading & Writing Pack Baby Bundle Backpacks of Love Youth Personal Care

Women’s Prison Pack Blankets

Plus there are other Missouri opportunities, such as MO Agape House, MO PATCH and MO Faith Voices - see page 8 of the booklet.

Sharing in Missouri (kits distributed in Missouri): Sharing Around the World (domestic & international):

School Kits (Church World Service) Hygiene Kits (Church World Service) Cleanup Buckets (Church World Service)

Plus other opportunities such as Bread for the World, Heifer International, Merida Foundation, Mobility Worldwide, The Rainbow Network and SOSA - see pages 15, 20 & 21 of the booklet.

Throws Crib Quilts

Which of these packs is catching your interest? Maybe your class, small group or group of friends could collect items for that pack! More details about all of these can be found in the 2020 Festival of Sharing booklet. The complete Festival booklet is available online at: http://www.festivalofsharing.org/resources.html, or contact the church office.

Annual Conference District Challenge: Each district has been challenged to collect an item for the MO

Personal Hygiene Pack. Our district, Mid-State, is to collect Combs and Hair Brushes. We have a collection box set up outside the office door, and will collect new combs & brushes until Tuesday, July 7th.

“Festival of Sharing 101: One Mission, Many Communities” - go to https://vimeo.com/408864772 to view an informational webinar about Festival of Sharing. (recorded April 16, 2020)

Another option for getting involved is the Festival of Sharing Quilt Auction event! The Quilt Committee is moving forward with plans for the 2020 Auction in hopes that the Nov. 14th event can proceed as planned.
