Reporting Guidelines
1. An alumina refnery may produce calcined alumina (aluminium
oxide – Al203)or hydrated alumina (aluminium oxide trihydrate –
Al203.3H20 – generally
reerred to as hydrate) or oth. !t is" thereore" necessary to
estalish astandard method o reporting the refnery#s alumina
production andcapacity. $or this purpose" all %uantities are
reported as nominal aluminiumoxide (Al203) %uantities. &he
con'ersion o %uantities o hydrate toe%ui'alent" 100" nominal
aluminium oxide %uantities" taes account o theree moisture content
in *et hydrate and the molecular *eight ratio o 1+,-102 et*een
dried hydrate and aluminium oxide. &hus 100"000 tonneso *et
hydrate *ith a moisture content o 10 is e%ui'alent to 0"000tonnes o
dried hydrate and (0"000 x 102/1+,) +", tonnes o nominalaluminium
oxide.
2. Alumina production is defned as the %uantity o nominal
aluminium oxideproduced in a defned period. !t is reported under
three headings-
a. etallurgical Alumina roduction. &he production o alumina
ormetallurgical uses. &his fgure is the %uantity o calcined
aluminaproduced or the production o primary aluminium.
. 4hemical Alumina roduction. &he production o alumina or
other" non5metallurgical" uses. &his fgure is normally the
%uantity o hydrate"expressed as nominal aluminium oxide" produced
or the production o
chemical products. !t may" ho*e'er" also include any %uantity
o calcined alumina produced specifcally or the production o
chemicalproducts.
c. &otal Alumina roduction. &he production o alumina or
all purposes. &his fgure is the sum o the reported
production or metallurgical usesand the reported production or
other" non5metallurgical" uses.
3. Alumina production is reported monthly and to the nearest
tonne (metricton).
. A company unale" or *hate'er reason" to report alumina
productionaccording to !A! defnitions and rules" is expected to
report consistently andas closely to those defnitions and rules as
is practical.
