The Symposium Theme and Some Considerations

The Symposium Theme:

Research Relationships and Supports: Facilitating Research Through Collaboration

The Considerations:1. The value of approaching research through a collaborative

process rather than strict individualism;

2. The importance of creating and maintaining research communities;

3. The affirmation of the research journey through shared experiences; and

4. The developmental and incremental humanism and growth through novel insights and knowledge sharing and acquisition creating global consciousness.

Working Definition of Altruism:

Any thought or act that is focused on the other, whose modus operandi is for the good

of the other, regardless of the effect on self. If by chance the thought or act benefits

the self in any form or substance, as long as the thought or act is prima facie altruistic and when evaluated posteriori at the root of the thought or act it is altruistic, then any self-interest is a by-product and immaterial to the ontology of

the thought or act and its teleology.
